Description

Regarded as the gold standard of medicines information and clinical management protocols in South Africa, the South African Medicines Formulary (SAMF), first published in 1988, is a trusted source of information and provides up-to-date, reliable, unbiased and evaluated information on medicines.
Currently on its 15th edition , it has become a standard health practitioner's medicine reference guide, respected for accuracy of content and independence from the pharmaceutical industry. It is now available on this mobile application and supported by a web portal (https://samf-app.com/) which subscribers will have access to.

The SAMF application and Book is a joint initiative of the Division of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Cape Town and the South African Medical Association (SAMA). Liquid thought maintains the application and web portal.

Great to have but glitchy

App and Website (on iPhone) has been glitchy. Some drugs won’t open, can’t close the drop down menu with the “x” (on the website). Better and more authoritative content than EMGuidance but too glitchy.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for taking the time to rate the app. Please note the website is not mobile-friendly. The app is better suited for mobile use.

Missing an index

Oddly, the app doesn’t provide for the way that most clinicians use the paperback SAMF: scrolling through the alphabetical list of drug names and then going to the page with all the relevant prescribing information for the particular drug…
The app seems to be set up as a crash-course in pharmacy… only useful if you are looking for a crash-course in pharmacy…

Developer Response ,

Dear Noel

Thank you for your review. Could you please email us on pha-mic@uct.ac.za as I am confused by your comment. The app has a sophisticated search function it may be that the search function has not activated on your phone. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app and trying again. You can also go to the website: samf-app.com and login with the same credentials you set up for the app. Regards The SAMF Team

Trustworthy info

Takes some time to get used to the app, but love having the info at my finger tips.

Developer Response ,

Thank you, we are really glad that you love the SAMF app! Your support is very important to us. The SAMF Team
