T-P Link M4 Deco WiFi Mesh System
Oh my goodness T-P Link M4 Deco WiFi Mesh System where were you all my life. I have just installed this system and it is working really well. Fast WiFi speeds all over the house and excellent connection and no longer drops or gives a problem, even with load shedding I just have a mini UPS back up for each (Jiageng Mini DC UPS 8800mAh- Excellent little thing and works well and reasonably priced). So easy to set up and use and your device picks up the strongest signal to stay connected and good speeds wherever you are in the house. Going to purchase a further 3 for my flatlet and I am sure it will work perfectly. Thank you so much JGT
Deco
I have been running a mesh system since Jan’22 and is very impressed with the system.
Some times however find that devices not getting an ip and have to switch from wifi to cable or visa versa. I have a relative big setup and running on 1 main deco and 5 remotes. Devices tend to connect to different deco’s instead of the one closest. Have figures that out after a reboot of all deco’s and bring them up in a certain order.
Otherwise a brilliant system and will recommend to any one looking to expand and moving forward.
App (not hardware) review
The hardware is great - I have 4 units throughout house and no signal loss + mesh roaming is great.
This review is about the app though:
- parental controls are a step down from a normal router. Very basic and can't track or block individual sites as easily as with normal tplink router software
- "optimization" function is useless. Basically a circular reference. Every time you run it it says there's an issue and it just keeps cycling through the same changes, endlessly.
- throughput of connected devices slow to update. For example, I know I will be downloading something at full line speed on laptop, but the app will show 0 bits used. If I leave it open for a few mins, eventually it will show the laptop throughput.
What works:
-easily see all devices connected
-notifications on new devices connected
-ability to view network status over the internet
- setup walkthrough. Fairly straightforward and plug & play
- ability to configure all connected units LED lights to go off at night at custom time
In summary: Great hardware. App could be slightly better.
