Straddling the intersection of challenging, cute and somehow funny, Witcheye is the sort of game that’ll keep you coming back for more.
Players take on the role of a witch – or, more specifically, the giant flying eye that the witch transforms herself into. This eye then soars through a series of tricksy caves and dungeons, with plenty of enemies along the way.
The controls are disarmingly simple: tap to make the eye stop where it is and swipe to send it flying in the desired direction. The eye keeps moving until it hits something where it then ricochets off in a new direction.
Baddies in the way include spiked toads that leap into the air, candles that burst into flames and, of course, the occasional giant enemy boss battle. They manage to be both menacing and hilarious. Just look at that giant skeleton’s little feet paddling in the air!
All you need to do to take down a marauding spider or be-hatted blob is fly into them. Simple? There’s always a catch. Enemies throw their own attacks or have defences that mean you can only hit them from one direction. With so much variety, challenges that ramp up and a gentle but rewarding learning curve, Witcheye is one of those games that’s easy to learn, but hard to master. And you’ll want to master it!
