LEADNAV GPS is the professional off-road GPS for iPhone and iPad. Plan the route at home, run it with turn-by-turn voice guidance where there are no roads, and put your whole team on one map. Built for teams that work and travel off the grid: search and rescue, security details, expeditions, hunting camps, work crews, race teams and their chase crews.
NAVIGATE WHERE THERE ARE NO ROADS
• Turn-by-turn voice guidance from routes you build or import. Waypoints speak by name as you approach them.
• Red warning rings and blue proximity rings that adjust to your speed, so the call comes when you need it.
• Any ring you cross alerts, on the route or off it. Serpentine points keep you on the line without a word.
• Works with no signal at all. Navigation never needs a connection.
• Record tracks, convert them to routes, reverse a route to come back the way you went.
• Drop markers for anything you want to find again. Recon, Aviation and Hunting marker sets are included for everyone.
• Compatible with Bluetooth headsets, helmet intercoms and speakers for eyes-free navigation.
TRIP PACKAGES
• One file per trip, event or property: routes, tracks and markers together, with categories and Recently Deleted.
• Built on the GPX standard. Import from and export to any GPS device or planning software.
• Share a whole Trip Package with your team by AirDrop, Messages or email.
• Route Editor with Undo, Join Multiple Routes, Convert Markers to Audio Waypoints, Export to GPS Unit for Garmin, Lowrance and other units.
YOUR WHOLE TEAM ON ONE MAP
• Group tracking is included with the app. One Team Code, a QR or an invite link builds the team. Teammates join in seconds and see each other live.
• Runs over any internet connection: cellular, Wi-Fi at camp, or vehicle-mounted satellite internet such as Starlink.
• Keeps sharing with the screen locked when you turn on background tracking.
• No account, no login, nothing to sign up for. Your team identity is a random code you can reset any time.
COMMS (PRO LICENSE)
• Hold to talk with your teams from the pad on the map or from a wireless button. Release to send.
• Every message is written out as text in the team thread, so a call you missed at speed is still there when you look down.
• Several teams at once, each with its own channel and switch. Faster updates, teammate speed, off-screen arrows and breadcrumb trails.
PRERUNNING TOOLS (PRO LICENSE)
• PreRunner Bar and Pocket PreRunner: one-tap waypoint drops at speed, with a wipe-safe screen lock.
• Wireless buttons: drop waypoints, record tracks, zoom and talk with your hands on the wheel. Part of our patent-pending prerunning system.
• Waypoint Mic: hands-free voice notes at speed through your helmet comms.
• Speed Highlighter: paint the route green, yellow and red as you run it.
• Package Rules: proximity rings and marker symbols by name, saved in the file for everyone you share it with.
• Off Route Alert: hear it the moment you leave the line, and which side the route is on.
• Edit at speed: tap any waypoint in run mode to edit or delete it.
OFFLINE MAPS
• Free online map sources include USGS Satellite, USGS Topo and OpenStreetMap.
• The Entry and Pro Licenses add offline map imagery for every map type, MBTiles import and overlays, and custom map URLs. Select areas and store them before you go. Maps are provided by outside services and are subject to change.
LICENSES
The app is a one-time purchase. Entry and Pro are auto-renewing licenses, managed in your Apple account. Details at leadnavgps.com/pricing.
NOTES
• This is a high-powered GPS and needs power for prolonged use in the field. Continued background GPS use can dramatically decrease battery life.
• Wi-Fi-only iPads have no internal GPS chip. Use a cellular model, or an external GPS receiver with the app.
• Group tracking and Comms need an internet connection. Navigation does not.
Más Final Cleanup Shot for the Phase 1 and Phase 2 Overhauls
FEATURES and ADJUSTMENTS
- Connected teams (Pro License): two teams can now see each other on the map without anyone joining the other team. Captains connect with a Connect Code; the other team appears under yours in Tracking & Comms. Turn it on to take part.
- Team colors: a captain's team color is the default for everyone on the team, and for a connected team too.
- Make Captain: hand the team to another member from the team page.
- Team Codes: letters go in as capitals and the dash fills in by itself.
- North Up: a new button next to the crosshair turns the map north right where you are. The crosshair takes you back to your position heading-up, and both are instant now.
- Hide HUD stays hidden through a run, and the Talk readout stays on screen at the bottom edge. The pause button is gone; Stop and Run start a clean run every time.
- Route Editor: backing out of a route in the Menu closes it, and Done closes only the Menu. Points stacked on one spot edit as one point. X asks before removing a named last point. Line taps are for View only.
- Convert Markers: markers near another route start checked, and Put Back restores every route point a conversion rewrote.
- KeyPad: Undo goes on any key you choose. With a waypoint window open, the Undo key clears what you said so you can say it again. A shared KeyPad layout now brings its waypoint pages with it.
- Trigger Word (Beta) for the Waypoint Mic, off by default.
- Audio: prompts and alerts no longer miss after a Run restarts, and the audio logs are clearer for support.

Welcome to Phase 2 - Introducing NEW powerful capabilities for our PreRunners
Home Zone. Keeps your exact position private near home. Teammates see a shaded area your home is inside, never at the center of. Off unless you turn it on. Settings > Tracking & Comms.
Customize Waypoints. Rename any waypoint symbol, choose from new symbols including turn severity L1 to R6, Caution, Fence, Cattle Guard, Whoops and G-Out, and drag them where you want them. Names are spoken as written. iPad Side Panels keep your symbols beside the waypoint window. Share a layout to another device as a file. Reversing a route mirrors the turn symbols.
KeyPad (Beta). A Bluetooth keypad becomes a multi-button pad: one key per waypoint symbol, plus Speed Dot, zoom, track, undo and talk, set on a drawing of the pad in Settings > Buttons. Pro.
Buttons. Settings > Buttons now explains what the buttons do and how several systems run together, with a card for each.
The mic learns your fixes. Correct a name the Waypoint Mic typed and this device remembers it. Say turn codes the way you call them and they save as L4 or Right 3+. The shared word list updates on its own.
Trigger Word (Beta). The Waypoint Mic waits until it hears LEADNAV, for shared mics and intercoms. Pro, off by default.
6.50 9 oct
¡Hola! LEADNAV GPS now speaks Spanish.
Español (Beta). Settings > Language. Navigation speaks Spanish, the Waypoint Mic listens in Spanish, new waypoints get Spanish names, and the descriptions under every setting read in Spanish. English is unchanged unless you switch.
Names in both languages. Switch languages and LEADNAV offers to convert the open package: marker and waypoint names in our dictionary change, your own words stay as typed, and Undo is one tap away.
Mic Report (Pro). When the Waypoint Mic hears a word wrong and you fix the name, send the pair when you choose. Text only. Approved fixes reach every mic user through Mic Word List under Voice Prompts.
Trigger Word (Beta, Pro). For when a passenger or an intercom shares the mic: the Waypoint Mic waits until it hears LEADNAV, then takes your note. Calibrate it once so it learns how you say the word, in English or Spanish.
Waypoint Labels. Wrap long names onto two lines and put names left or right of the pin.
Convert Markers by Name. A word now lives in one list only, and the match count shows what will actually convert.
Team Comms. Voice messages turn into text faster and more reliably.

This is a big one...biggest boost in capability since LEADNAV released in 2014...and just getting started. Consider this Phase 1
Team Codes and Comms
- Build a team with one Team Code, a QR or an invite link. Teammates join in seconds and see each other on the map.
- My Contacts is now My Team. Teams set up the older way are retired with this update; open My Team, tap Get a Team Code and share it.
- Comms (Pro License): hold to talk from the pad on the map or from a wireless button. Every message is written out as text in the team thread, with an Unheard button for what you missed and a Radio Check.
- Teams still start off when the app fully closes. If a team was on when the app last closed, the app tells you.
PreRunning and buttons
- Wireless buttons: two-button pads and single-button push-to-talk buttons. Drop waypoints, record tracks, zoom and talk without touching the screen.
- Speed Highlighter (Pro License): your green, yellow and red dots paint the route in road order, however many runs it took to place them.
- Ring alerts on every note you drop, on the route or off it, for every tier.
- Off Route Alert (Pro License), off by default: a clear call when you leave the line, and which side the route is on.
- Audible Markers now offers Off, Rings Only and All Markers.
- Edit waypoints and notes from the map with a route loaded: Edit, Delete, Make Serpentine.
- Undo: editor changes, Menu deletes, converts, joins and reverses can all be taken back. The editor X steps back one change, and Undo Last Change waits on the Trip Package page.
- Route Editor guide on the info button beside Total Distance.
Files and maps
- Trip Package categories in the Menu, and Recently Deleted with thirty days to bring a package back.
- Clearer import: see what a file holds, then start a new Trip Package or add it to one you have.
- Join Multiple Routes and Convert Markers to Audio Waypoints (both Pro License) each get a live map view.
- Export to GPS Unit: the whole Trip Package for a Lowrance or Garmin, long tracks delivered in parts.
- Package Rules (Pro License): proximity rings and marker symbols by name, saved in the file and shared with it.
- Recon, Aviation and Hunting marker sets are now free for everyone.
- Tap a route, track or marker on the map for Run, Edit, Go To and Menu.
- Background Map shows a sample of each map, with your current map marked.
Also in this update: a rebuilt Menu and Settings, dark on every screen, a one-time What's New on the first launch after an update, and many fixes from weeks of field testing. Requires iOS 15 or later.

LEADNAV 6.47.1
MAP STORAGE CLEANUP NOW ASKS FIRST
• 6.47 ran its map storage cleanup silently at launch. On heavily used devices that could lock the map for several minutes with no explanation, and it could repeat. Fixed.
• The app now asks before cleaning: a card explains what it found and you tap Start Cleanup or Later. The offer only appears while you are parked, not navigating, and not recording. Progress and the amount reclaimed are shown on screen.
• Deleting a saved map or clearing a map cache in Settings > Map now reclaims leftover data right then, behind a progress card, so the buildup cannot return.
• Your saved offline maps are never touched. Map areas you viewed online but never saved reload the next time you visit them.
• Saved-area names on the Download screen no longer disappear while another area downloads. Only the area currently downloading hides its label, so incomplete areas stay easy to spot.
• Waypoint Mic (Beta) now listens in US English on every device. 6.47 used the iPad's language setting, so an iPad set up in Spanish listened in Spanish. Waypoint Mic understands English only for now; Spanish is planned. You can always type a name instead.
• New in Settings > Voice Prompts: an Offline Speech Pack row. Offline speech in any app needs Apple's on-device English speech pack. On iOS 26 and later the row shows whether that pack is on this device and downloads it for you with progress. On older iOS the row opens the setup guide.
• If Waypoint Mic is on and that file is missing, the app now tells you, once, when you turn the switch on or open the prerunner bar while parked, with a Download button right there (iOS 26 and later). The switch is never changed for you.
• The Audio Input Troubleshooting guide is one tap away from Settings > Voice Prompts and the Mic Access alert.
EVERYTHING FROM 6.47 IS INCLUDED
FASTER MAPS: MAJOR STORAGE FIX
• Fixed a long-standing storage issue: leftover offline map data built up over months of saving and deleting maps. Symptoms included minutes-long freezes when switching map types, slow map loading, and slow saved-area deletes.
NEW: WIRELESS BUTTONS (Pro)
• Pair wireless remote buttons in Settings > Buttons. One press drops a waypoint with the mic live, the next press saves it. A button can instead start and stop track recording. Part of our patent-pending prerunning system.
NEW: POCKET PRERUNNER ON IPHONE (Pro)
• The prerunner bar comes to iPhone as a slide-out. Run a route, pull the PRERUNNER tab: waypoint dropper plus a wipe-safe screen lock.
NEW: WAYPOINT MIC (Pro, Beta)
• Hands-free voice notes at speed, straight through your helmet comms. Drop a waypoint from the prerunner bar or a button and just talk.
• Headset setup, do this once: Cardo users turn Intelligent Noise Block OFF (Cardo app, Advanced audio settings), it eats the first word of every note. Raise mic sensitivity one notch. Set phone-call volume high: the confirmation tones ride the call link. For offline use, enable iOS Dictation once in Settings > General > Keyboard.
PRERUNNING SUITE (Pro)
• Off Route Waypoints and Hotline Alerts: drops beyond the race line save at their true position and guide you off the line and back.
• Edit at speed: tap any waypoint in run mode to edit or delete it.
• Tap a track line on the map to select it, then convert it to a route or delete it.
NAVIGATION AND FIXES
• Direction-of-travel arrows on route lines.
• Coming back to the course from a hotline now locks to where you rejoin, not miles behind.
• External GPS antenna recovery if the antenna stream dies mid-run.
• Landscape iPads no longer swing the map when you stop.
• Waypoint save is instant and the confirm tone plays reliably over Bluetooth headsets.
• Max zoom can no longer stick at 16 until relaunch.

GPS RELIABILITY - our biggest performance improvement to date:
• External GPS (XGPS160) failover overhauled: if your receiver dies, disconnects,
or loses signal, LeadNav switches to internal GPS in about a second - and
switches back automatically when it returns. No more app restarts.
• Fixed a rare frozen-position issue after locking/unlocking the screen.
• Recording engine hardened for huge Trip Packages: file saves no longer
interrupt the GPS stream, and unsaved edits are protected when the app
is backgrounded or closed.
• Fixed a rare route corruption that could throw a point across the globe -
and affected files now repair themselves on load.
• Track "Time" stat now shows true recording time. Max Speed is now immune
to GPS glitches.
GROUP TRACKING:
• Saved team sessions are now far easier to review: teammate name tags at
track endpoints, tap any track to identify the rider, and visible
timestamps throughout.
• Recording your own track while showing live teammate trails no longer
competes for resources - proven with 12 live riders and a full race
package on one device.
• Fixed a launch crash when large saved team session overlays were left
enabled.
• Cleaner Group Tracking settings on iPhone and iPad.
LICENSES - clearer names, more ways to pay:
• Advanced Pack is now ENTRY LICENSE. Pro Pack is now PRO LICENSE.
Same products, same features - clearer names.
• New Licenses screen: live pricing, your plan status and renewal date,
side-by-side tier comparison, and offer code redemption.
• Monthly payment options are now available for both licenses.
• Marker sets remain yours for life once unlocked.
Plus battery improvements and UI fixes throughout.

• Live speed — view each teammate's current speed right on their map marker.
• Breadcrumb trails — follow where teammates have traveled with a color-coded track for each member.
• Saved team sessions — group-tracking sessions are recorded automatically so you can review, replay, or share them as GPS files.
Also new:
• "Collections" are now "Trip Packages" — same GPS file bundles, clearer name.
• Offline map storage management to keep your downloads in check.
• More update-interval options, with faster refresh rates for Pro.
• Improved team color contrast, stability fixes, and UI polish.

Group Tracking — Big Updates
• New Teams: organize the people you track into named teams, each with its own color and on/off switch — flip a team on or off to show or hide just those members on the map.
• GoTo a teammate: tap anyone you're tracking and navigate straight to them — it follows their live position as they move.
• Off-screen teammates now show as a color-coded marker at the edge of the map, pointing to them with live distance.
• Faster updates with a selectable update interval and an instant first position when you start tracking.
Performance & Navigation
• Major speed improvements with large GPS files and long, detailed routes — smoother and cooler-running.
• More accurate GoTo guidance — the "come left / come right" direction now points true to your destination.
• Open-terrain GoTo guidance now works at walking pace, not just while driving.
• Voice prompts play in the right order with better timing.
Maps & Markers
• Copy or share multiple markers at once.
• Offline-map fixes and a new Performance setting.
Fixes & Polish
• More reliable group tracking.
• Numerous stability and iPad fixes, including a reliably tappable settings button on iPad mini.

Big Update
You may not notice anything new on the surface but we promise you the app has greatly improved on the backend. This will set the foundation for new features in the future.
- Complete overhaul of our mapping and backend
- Improvements to the GPS positioning and handling of the XGPS160 antenna
- Graphic upgrades to Route and Track lines
- Map “spin” became available with the new Mapping backend…more to come!
We recommend a backup of your Collections (GPS files) and a delete of all your saved stored background map imagery cache, better yet a delete of the app and reinstall with this update is preferred. Again this is a full backend map update so your old saved background maps will not work. Not to be confused with your GPS files (Collections) as these will be fine and as .GPX files they will work anywhere. Just bring em back in after the update.
For those paying attention to our Newsletters, You Tube channel and Social media we are also developing a HUGE capability in our new LN COMMAND / Juliet Ai which is being tested out and doubling in its capabilities daily….stay tuned!

You definitely want this update!
Major Bug Fixes
- Last week we pushed a total overhaul to the subscription handling...unfortunately a few switches got flipped and things turned off. This made some Pro features not available to new users. Sorry...things happen but we appreciate those supporting us and letting us know!
Features
- They are all back
We spent the past few months rebuilding subscription handling to include now offering our Satellite Group Tracking as an In-App monthly or yearly activation to use with Iridium GO! units and the separate Iridium unlimited services.
Lots of capability added with that for offline, peer to peer group tracking. If you don't know what this is...don't buy it till you learn more from our website and have the hardware to run it.
6.8 21/05/2021
Features
- Added our Satellite Group Tracking subscriptions to be now purchased In-App!
- You also get per month pricing available as well as the traditional year pricing
Not only does this free up our need to activate each and every device, but in turn it drops the cost across a number of Iridium devices sharing the same Group/Team iTunes account.
**NOTE if you do not know what this is...you probably don't know how to use it nor have the satellite Iridium packages to actually run it. So, DO NOT PURCHASE IT until you learn more from our website. This is a service allowing you to see each other in the field in areas without traditional cellular or WiFi coverage. To do this, it requires satellite equipment and SERVICE. The only service we recommend is the Iridium GO! Unlimited plan, as anything else will burn out your data too quickly. Make sure you get that equipment and service lined up first.
Terms apply as per website and we are not responsible for you not knowing how to use it after you purchase it. Most of our folks running this have been trained by us, in person, through our courses...or they happen to be computer geeks... In our experience, most desert racers AREN'T "computer geeks" (no offense)...so grab your kid or an IT person before purchasing.
***Also these are large auto renewing subscriptions...so remember to cancel prior to your next billing cycle if you do not wish to continue.
Bug Fixes
- Killed one that appeared recently where in certain instances GPX files were not able to import
- Also, we hopefully killed a bug that showed new users that they had a Pro Pack subscription when they actually had not purchased one...bear with us as we just did a major overhaul to subscription handling
As always, THANK YOU....and let us know if you like the app by giving us a review!
