Love audiobooks, but the app could be improved
aeguthrie
I love the audiobooks and I have a subscription with Audible. I have been using this for about 4 years now! I listen to audiobooks book daily. It allows me to be entertained while driving or cleaning or walking or even cooking. I don’t have to miss out on an engaging story just because I need to use my hands or eyes for something else at the time. And now days Its rare to find a narrator that I dislike and can’t listen to. Listening to story’s this way is so engaging it really paints the picture of the story and allows the comedy, suspense, thill etc. to be felt. I recommend this way of reading to people who don’t have time to sit and read or aren’t big readers but would like to be, or just like myself, want to be reading constantly! Once someone has started audiobooks, they never stop! I also love the option of buy extra credits for a discount, it’s a great idea. But the app could really use one big thing to improve it! I have soooo many books on the app now it’s hard to sort through them. I also tend to read series rather than stand alone books. It would be fantastic if there was a way to sort the books into your own order and collections like can be done on the Kindle app. I find it very hard to find the next book I have downloaded in the series without googling the series list. Or to go back and reread a series in the correct order. Just being able to organise my audiobooks in a way that suits me would elevate this app and service to a 5/5. I look to forward to the developers taking this into consideration!
Australian History - the truth of “Brand BRM”
Enidbly
A great crime story, unfortunately not fiction. Just detailed informative journalism. Personally it’s like the tide, reading chapters of the highs and lows. How one man deceived so many people. How some protected “ his truths” unconditionally. The many who suffered as a consequence of his giant ego, especially the dead. Maybe the new branding or added tattoo should be Icarus? Everyone involved deserves a medal that contributed to this book, for their bravery in coming forward, whether subpoenaed, or simply wanting “ their truth” heard. This book unveils other social murky waters besides exposing certain rogue soldiers in accredited areas, without question, or investigating whether accolades are warranted against murmurs. Researchers simply shut down or alienated from future employment when discrepancies are raised. The power of money buys silence. Still, back the wrong horse at the track, a dud is a dud at the post. Thank you for writing this book. Thank you for your diligence over the last 5 years. Thanks for informative investigative journalism that simply reveals truths marry up. I hope many read this and reflect. There are many good men and women who serve our communities because they are honourable and have a backbone, displaying integrity through their acts of “doing the right thing because it is the right thing to do”, speak up against injustice. A moving book that I will reread as so much to intake regarding findings of various material. Worthy read.
The Story of Danny Dunn
RichH076
This book changed my life, as it was the 1st Bryce Courtenay book I’d ever read (or had read to me via Audible). As an Australian I’m almost ashamed to say that it took me until my 47th yr (and about 12 yrs after his death) to pick up a Courtenay book and to understand and appreciate what a true storytelling genius we were gifted with. I believe Danny Dunn was published towards the end of Courtenay’s some 22 book catalogue and it’s obvious that he’s used all his experience in writing this masterpiece. The story is about a young man growing up in the working class suburb (back then but not so much today if you know Sydney) of Balmain. Danny has the world at his feet, as an 18 yr old rugby league player who is playing 1st grade for the Balmain Tigers he’s touted as a future Australian Kangaroos representative. With movie star looks and a brain to match, everything changes when against his mother’s desperate plea’s he signs up and is shipped off to war (WW2) where he’s soon taken as a prisoner of war. It’s a story of families, of love, of loss, and I found myself making up excuses to go for a drive, as driving is the time I’d listen to it. I’m not ashamed to say I shed a few tears and instantly became addicted to the writing of Bryce Courtenay. I’m writing this a while after reading and have since read another 6 of Courtenay’s books. I read once where somebody described him as a modern day Charles Dickens and I could not agree more with that term if I tried. Easily my new favourite author. Danny Dunn gets 5 stars!
