Now, dive into chemistry!
Alcyone is a brain puzzle designed for those with a scientific curiosity. It helps those who want to learn chemistry more easily and enjoyably, while offering a challenging and engaging experience for chemistry enthusiasts. Users worldwide have already recognized its highly effective learning experience.
Build molecules and trigger reactions.
• Combine elements to synthesize a wide variety of molecules. Experience the vast world of chemistry and find joy in discovering over 1,300 real-world compounds.
• Compounds change through three phases—solid, liquid, and gas—depending on the ambient temperature. Their physical properties, where solids and liquids sink and gases rise, act as key variables in your puzzles.
• Place identical compounds in adjacent cells to trigger reactions. The more complex the elemental composition of the compound, the higher the score you earn, allowing you to find your own efficient scoring path.
• Your score increases exponentially as the number of reacting compounds grows and the chain reactions last longer. Strategize your placement to achieve the highest possible scores.
• From basic reactions like acid-base neutralization and hydrolysis to advanced organic chemistry, combine real-world chemical reactions to design and enjoy spectacular chain reactions.
Explore the periodic table and collect elements.
• Conquering numerous stages organized by atomic number, from Hydrogen (H, 1) to Krypton (Kr, 36), allows you to explore chemistry from basic to advanced levels step-by-step.
• Every time you complete a stage, you can collect new elements or unlock new chemical reactions that expand the possibilities of your experiments and your scientific toolkit.
• Upgrade each element to significantly boost your scoring efficiency. As you upgrade specific elements, the value of every compound containing them increases, letting you reach much higher scores.
• Acquire and upgrade organic functional groups to improve synthesis efficiency. Even compounds with complex structures can be created much more easily and quickly using upgraded functional groups.
Alcyone is continuously improved through regular updates. Focus entirely on the joy of chemistry without any in-app purchases or pop-up ads.
The concept of the game is amazing learning about different types of chemicals and their histories and uses is exactly what I wanted out of this type of game. However the game needs a few tweaks to make it play smoother. -Some of the rounds have unreasonable bonus compounds, the first example that comes to mind is the compound in the fluorine round as you only get 2 fluorine boxes it’s nearly impossible to merge the two created molecules meaning you end up using lots of atoms for no payoff. This problem is persistent across all rounds where you consistently have molecules that are extremely large and relatively few atoms to make them. To remedy this I’d recommend either a difficulty option that gives you a multiplier to your number of atoms or a zen mode in which you have unlimited atoms for if you just want to explore what the game has to offer because as it currently stands it’s virtually impossible to experience the later rounds. -A round/level select would be cool for if you want to explore all the compounds for a particular element. As the round ends when you have gotten enough points regardless of whether you’ve made the target compounds or not-An encyclopaedia with all compounds you’ve made would be good as well because once you lose a round it’s impossible to go back and read about compounds you’ve previously made.-An option for a larger game board such as 7x10 or 10x13 would be good as some compounds such as methane already require a full line to be made if you are assembling them from scratch-There are some formatting issues that make parts of the UI impossible to see which means you might not be able to see some of your goal compounds or other crucial buttons-Games don’t save if you exit the app which compounds with the issue of not having a level select meaning if you get far in to a game you could lose hours of progress Whilst I love the idea of the game and have enjoyed playing it I am a chemistry major and am thus more invested than most individuals I don’t know if I could see a high schooler or someone with only a passing interest feeling as though this game is worth the current asking price. If the game gets updated to remedy some of the outlined issues I could see this game being a fun way to pass time whilst learning some cool chemistry facts. While my review is critical it comes from wanting to see this game reach its full potential and I look forward to seeing how this game evolves into the future.
Developer Response
I really appreciate your lengthy feedback, and I'm deeply touched. Your post provided valuable insights that will guide our future improvements. To address some of your other points, the scarcity of certain key elements in some stages is somewhat intentional. As you mentioned (and may already know), Fluorine introduces a mechanic where adjacent HF and H2O convert both cells into HF(aq), which can then be combined with other molecules to form more complex structures. (Because of this, aqueous solution cells are scored only when 3+ cells are adjacent, rather than 2.) Since F can be easily replicated using water in this way, the initial count is intentionally kept small for balance. I fully understand the issue you raised, and although the scarcity was intentional, I will still consider various solutions to improve the balance and player experience. Also, I did test the game on a larger board, but the small font size made reading the molecular formulas difficult, which significantly hindered the gameplay experience. It's not an easy fix, but I will consider offering an option for board size in a future update. Finally, thank you again. Your words will greatly improve this game.
• Fixed an issue where new molecules could be synthesized while neutralization, hydrolysis, dissolution, or other organic chemical reactions were in progress.
• Enhanced user privacy. Removed external SDKs used for ad tracking.
