I was excited to try out the Oceanic+ app, which boasts itself as the only app with Apple's entitlement to use the submersion sensor. However, upon using it, I couldn't help but feel like this app left me feeling more submerged in disappointment than anything else. To begin with, the app requires a subscription to access all of its features. This would be tolerable if the subscription provided a valuable "as a service" experience, but instead, it merely unlocks predefined features that should have been included in the app from the get-go. It's hard to justify paying for a subscription when there's no sense of continuous value being provided. Moreover, the fact that Oceanic+ is the only app with access to the submersion sensor feels like a monopoly that doesn't serve the user's best interests. With no competition to push the developers to improve and innovate, the app falls short of its potential, leaving users with a subpar experience that doesn't justify the subscription cost. The user interface is another area where the app falls short. It feels cluttered and unintuitive, making it difficult to navigate and access the features you've begrudgingly paid for. The overall design lacks the polish and refinement expected from an app specifically designed for Apple Watch users. In conclusion, the Oceanic+ app had the potential to be a game-changer with its exclusive access to the submersion sensor. However, the underwhelming features, expensive subscription model, and lackluster interface make it hard to recommend. Users are better off waiting for a more competitively-priced and innovative alternative, or for the developers to reconsider their approach and offer a more compelling experience.
