We built LocoPast because we kept wondering about the places around us. Every street, building, coastline and landscape has a story, but discovering those stories often meant searching through books, articles and websites. LocoPast is a way to open a map and instantly see the history beneath your feet.
LocoPast is the location-based history map app. We transform the world into an interactive map of human history. Open the app and discover the battles, revolutions, inventions, disasters, cultural movements, scandals and forgotten stories that happened exactly where you're standing - or anywhere else on Earth.
History isn't just something that happened somewhere else. It's all around us. Whether you're exploring your local area, travelling abroad, or simply curious about a place you've never visited, LocoPast reveals the events that shaped the landscapes, cities and communities we see today.
With LocoPast, you can:

Every event is linked to the place where it happened, turning ordinary locations into gateways to the past. As you move across the map, new stories appear automatically, creating a continuous journey of discovery.

The latest version of LocoPast, now with 3.5m+ historical stories, sites and events, includes a number of improvements to the experience. Whenever you move the map, rather than automatically scanning for additional stories, we give you the choice as to whether you would like to search the new area. Searches are also cached so you can build out the stories, rather than starting a fresh search each time. As always, thank you for the incredible support and feedback.
