Three years ago we launched Today’s Budget. Since then, we’ve added lots of great features, one update at a time. Over time, we also started noticing performance issues, especially for people with larger datasets. So for the last few months, we hit pause on new features and rebuilt the app’s engine to make it faster with larger datasets, and future-proof it using Apple’s latest technologies. Because of this core improvement, we’ve had to revisit every feature, and we took the time to improve them along the way. A lot has improved automatically. For example, the Insights charts have gotten a major refresh: • New summary graph (income, expenses, and savings at a glance) • Much faster, smoother chart loading • Weekly and yearly views • Rolling and calendar-based options • Search built into every chart • Option to hide recurring expenses to focus on everyday spending • Streamlined navigation and a cleaner look • New “All Time” timeframe to see year-to-year trends since day one • Emergency fund settings: set your target in months Across the app, there are more improvements: • Log view now scrolls smoothly into future dates • Cleaner Settings view … plus lots of small improvements! On the surface, v2.2 may feel familiar, but underneath it’s brand new. This foundation will help us improve Today’s Budget faster going forward. Hi there! This update is a quick hotfix — we’ve fixed a display issue on the savings jar entry page. Thanks so much for your patience while we sorted this out. Just in case you missed it, here’s a recap of what changed in the last update: (1) [Savings goals] Out from the savings jar After the last v2.1 update where we combined savings goals inside the savings jar, we got a lot of feedback that it made it harder to get a quick, clear picture of your general savings. After a careful consideration, we decided to separate savings goals from the savings jar. Why? 1. Savings goals work differently. They’re meant to be used up — like saving for a trip or a new phone. This type of saving is called a sinking fund: you set aside money for a planned expense, and then spend it when the time comes. It doesn’t mix well with long-term savings or an emergency fund, which are meant to grow and stay put. 2. We tried showing two savings jar balances, one with and one without savings goals. But it ended up being more confusing — it wasn’t easy to get a clear view at a glance. So savings goals are now separate again. We’re sorry for the back and forth! When you save up 100% for a savings goal, then you can enter how much you actually spent. Please note: • Since the savings jar now shows only your general savings, the balance might look lower. • Savings goals which were made as a part of savings jar are shown under the “General” category for now —but you can assign any expense category you like to each goal at any time. (2) [Spread-out expenses] A dedicated overview Many of you requested a list of all spread-out expenses, so there's now a new section under Insights > Spread-out expenses. You can: • View all your active spread-out entries in one spot • See how much you’re paying daily for each one • Check the total remaining balance you still need to pay off (3) [Log] Vertical Scroll Layout to See Daily Expenses. This isn’t a brand-new feature, but it’s worth pointing out. Many users told us that having spread-out expenses listed alongside daily ones in the Log made it harder to quickly see the spending for just that day. If that’s been bothering you, try the vertical scroll layout. It collapses all the multi-day entries, so you can focus on that day’s actual expenses — like lunch or groceries. Income, fixed costs, spread-out expenses, and savings are grouped under “Daily Budget”. We’ve also added a “+” button to each day so it’s easy to add an expense right where you need it. Just tap the list icon at the top of the Log page to switch views. (4) [Backup] Save manually option You can now export the backup file and save it anywhere you want, not just in your iCloud. We also improved the look of the main graph, savings page under Insights, and of course there are important bug fixes. Hi everyone! Here comes the next big update: v2.1! Here’s what’s new: Savings goals now better organized: Previously, savings goals and spread-out expenses were grouped under 'Expenses' in the Log page, but showed up as 'Savings goals' in the Insights page, which was confusing. We’ve made these changes: • [Log] Savings goals now live under Savings. Spread-out expenses stay under Expenses. • [Savings Jar Graph] New savings goals now appear in your Savings Jar graph—making it more accurate and your progress easier to see. • [Menu] To create a new savings goal, tap the piggy jar toggle on the main screen and select “Savings goal” from the menu. • [Older Goals] Your previous savings goals are still under Expenses. You can convert them anytime via: Log > open an entry > Convert to savings goal. • [Withdraw When Ready] Once you’ve saved 100% of your goal, you’ll be able to withdraw the target amount or use it to for an expense. Personalized income entry screen: The old income screen was cluttered with templates like Rent income or Pension—which didn’t apply to everyone and couldn’t be edited. We’ve cleaned it up! Now you’ll only see income entries you’ve actually used. This keeps the screen relevant and tidy. Big thanks to all the beta testers! Whether you log in daily or every few days, it fits your style. • Check-in serves as a gentle suggestion about missed days so you can go back and enter expenses. Hi everyone, In this update, you can now customize how your expense categories are sorted! Choose your own custom order, stick with the default “most used on top,” or switch to alphabetical sorting. We’ve also added support for a new iOS 18 feature: tinted app icons. You can now select a custom color for the app icon, or, if you stick with the default setting, the icon will dynamically shift between a brighter look during the day and a darker one at night. Hi everyone, We hope you are enjoying the new main page!  By popular request, you can now reset your balance regularly! You can set it up as an automation in Shortcuts – choose to reset your balance daily, weekly, monthly, or whenever it works best for you. It's very flexible! We’ve also added these new features to take advantage of the latest iOS version. You can personalise the Control Center and Lock Screen controls, and add a “New entry” shortcut to enter a new expense directly from the Lock Screen. Shortcuts: You can now create common expenses as Shortcuts, and add them to your home screen. Add expenses with Siri, or check Today's Budget. New Main Page: The new design is colorful, interactive, and visually engaging! Each entry comes with animations that show the impact of your spending in real-time. You can tap on any day to display your budget breakdown directly on the main page. Plus, enjoy a sleek dark mode look after sunset.
