Highly recommended to purchase the premium subscription. It’s not expensive and it gives you a ton of cool features. The forecast widget is perfect to see what the next couple of hours will bring but the “compare forecast” feature in app is incredible for planning long-term backcountry adventures. I find myself spending more time on windy than I do anywhere else online! The different layers tell you so much about the conditions around the world.

It’s a very good app… which is kinda the problem.A lot of people are under the impression that you don’t need to be able to understand the complexities and nuances of marine conditions, simply because they have Windy. I reckon this has lead to a decay in more traditional meteorological skills amongst experienced mariners who used to regularly calculate and plan based the actual observed conditions, due to the fact that they don’t really have to anymore.Of coarse, having a strong working knowledge of the fundamentals, reinforced by regular application of well developed skills, is still best practice. Windy just works and that’s great for those who lack deeper knowledge and experience but want to be able to safely operate on the water. I wonder if it’s doing to solid meteorological analysis what graphics GPS has done to the sextant.I’m a hypocrite - it’s been more than a year since I used a major port tide table to calculate the likely sea state, based on a MetService forecast and a paper chart. I just look at windy, drag the slider and know what’s gonna happen.Pretty cool, but kinda dumb.

As an airline pilot, surfer, and biker I can say this is still the best weather app and it just keeps getting better. Thanks Windy team! Worth every penny.ONE SUGGESTION:While looking at a local forecast and I want to rezoom the map to see what the bigger picture is while the details are displayed, the app now will too easily select another point rather than zooming or repositioning the map center. This is a bit annoying, any chance to address it? Thanks!!

I am a professional meteorologist and I used this app on my iPhone all the time. However, a recent update dropped a critical piece of functionally. I used to be able to click on a point, bring up a Skewt forecast, then scrub through time to see how the profile evolves. I can no longer do this. Can you please bring this back? Thanks for the awesome work!
