In this update, we have significantly enhanced image quality, editing capabilities, and overall performance. On iPhone 18 Pro series devices, support has been added for a variable aperture system that allows seamless aperture adjustment in addition to four fixed aperture settings. We've also introduced many new features, including ProRAW support for the high-efficiency next-generation JPEG XL format, AI-powered subject cutout using the latest on-device intelligence, and TIFF image capture. Camera startup and preview performance have also been improved by more than 2.5×, allowing you to start shooting faster than ever.

- TIFF support
You can now save 12 MP and 48 MP photos as uncompressed TIFF. Because the pixel data is kept nearly as-is, these files are well suited to editing and image analysis.
※ TIFF cannot be used together with Live Photos, RAW, 18 MP, or 24 MP.
- ProRAW Format
You can now choose JPEG Lossless, JPEG XL Lossless, or JPEG XL Lossy as the compression format for ProRAW capture. JPEG XL compresses more efficiently than JPEG, so files can be smaller at the same quality.
※ JPEG XL files can be used on iOS 17 or later and macOS 14 or later.
- Photo quality settings
You can now choose the look for 12 MP and 48 MP photos. For 12 MP, choose Unprocessed, Standard, or Processed. Unprocessed keeps a more lightly corrected look, while Standard and Processed change the amount of noise reduction and sharpness. For 48 MP, choose Standard or Processed.
・Photo editing
- Cutout
You can now cut out a subject from a photo in your library and save or share it as a PNG with a transparent background. Select the subject by tapping, drawing a line, or specifying a region.
※ Available on compatible iPhone models running iOS 27 or later. Not available for video. The first time may take a while while the inference model is prepared. After that, it is ready to use right away.
・Video mode
- Additional codec and color space options
You can now choose the codec and color space for video and Log recording, so you can balance color reproduction and file size for your workflow.
※ Available combinations depend on the device and capture settings. Log recording is captured in ProRes.
- Audio meter display styles
You can now set the audio meter during video recording to Off, Line, or Segment.
- Pro Video Storage
On compatible iPhones, you can now pre-allocate space on the device for ProRes recording. You can also stop recording before that allocated space runs out.
