Great app with helpful tech support
Chief-illa
I’ve only had the InstaCal app for a couple days now, but so far it’s been working great. Setup was a breeze... Even on my 10-year old macbook everything seems to work well and even syncs with my local iCal/Outlook events. When I had questions for InstaCal support, they responded to my emails within the hour and addressed my every question directly. So app aside, the support was awesome and the nearly “instantaneous” response was greatly appreciated (as a web developer who deals with shotty tech support almost daily, the rapid response was a pleasant surprise). I definitely recommend this app to anyone looking for that added calendar functionality that Apple seems to disregard. Thank you InstaCal!
I wish this worked a little bit better

I hate to be critical because the concept is so great, but at the end of the day I can't give this a great rating if my calendar doesn't sync properly. I tried first reaching out to app support, but the link in the app store doesn't work.Developers: I will absolutely change this review to 5-stars, but a major bug needs fixed. When I click the refresh button, my calendar does not update. I might make a subtle change in google calendar such as adjusting the time of an event to earlier or later in the day, and it just doesn't update in the widget. Or sometimes, events from the past don't show up. A small bug which wouldnt affect my rating but you may want to know is that the color options don't work properly. There is no way to "submit" the color you have chosen for a calendar. Sometimes it randomly updates, 99% of the time it just doesnt change and I don't know how to fix the color change I made. This is a cool simple widget for quickly checking today's date and today's calendar events, but without correcting the integration, I will slowly stop using this app and eventually remove it from my menu bar if my calendar is exactly correct when I check this. The difference between an event time change could mean being late to (or missing) a zoom meeting with a client – which costs me business and my livelihood. If the updating / integration gets fixed, I will give this 5 stars and vouch for it to friends. Until then, it's a 1- or 2-star app at best.
If you prefered the old menu only Fantastical...

I was disappointed when Fantastical decided to become a full-fledged calendar app. Frankly, I don’t need Fantastical's bells and whistles. I’ve tried a few menubar calendars after Fantastical and I parted ways and InstaCal is the first that I’ve found to be agreeable. It does what it is supposed to do: it’s a calendar that sits in your menubar, looks nice when you open it up, and makes adding events just a little bit easier. It is not able to ‘read’ text the way Fantastical does, unfortunately, but for me that’s not a dealbreaker (although it would be nice if it could!).I’ve given 4 stars instead of five because the one thing this app doesn’t do consistently is respond to trackpad gestures. You can scroll up and down through events, but you can’t swipe (or anything else) through the months. Also, two taps should allow you create an event, but instead you have to click the plus sign at the bottom of the window.

As mentioned, this is a good replacement for the original Fantastical. I had trouble setting it up initially but eventually was able to get it to sync with an Office365 account. However, all events show up 3 times. I cannot find any online help and there does not appear to be a way to contact the developer. This is very annoying and so only 3 stars. If there was a way to fix this, i would rate it 4 stars. It does not show the details of the events (links, notes, etc) and this would keep it from being 5 stars for me.Update: I found that by deleting the birthday and holiday calendars, events only appear once. Loss of the holiday and birthday calendars is not critical as this computer is used for work. So upgraded to 4 stars. Links to meetings sometimes are clickable, sometimes not. Would be nice if this were fixed or more consistent.
• One place to add anything. The + button opens a New Item sheet with an Event, Reminder, Task and Countdown switch, and it picks the kind as you type: "remind me to…", "task…" or "wedding countdown until Saturday" takes you there, with the date, repeat, tags and priority read straight out of what you typed.
• Quick Add understands repeats. Type "Run payroll every Monday at 9am" and get a weekly series, with the repeat taken out of the title, in every language InstaCal speaks. It works from the app, from Siri and Shortcuts, and from the Watch.
• Reminders get the event sheet's polish: a month calendar for the due day, Today, Tomorrow, This Weekend and Next Week chips, a Repeat picker and a map for location reminders. Add one straight from the Reminders sheet, and clear the last one to see the list celebrate.
• The agenda highlights what's happening now. An event under way sits on a soft card in its calendar's color, with a line that fills as it runs and how long is left. Let the whole row fill instead, include all-day and multi-day events, and have the Up Next bubble move straight on to what's next. Prefer a single day? Selected Day Only keeps the agenda to today, or the day you pick.
• Month view keeps up with you. Titles keep their calendar's true color, past events dim like they do in the agenda, and today's date has a roomier circle. On iPad, "+N more" opens the whole day in a sheet, tapping an event brings the agenda to its day, and weather in day headers keeps its temperatures in narrow columns.
• Month, Year, Quarter and Go to Date snap as you scroll, landing on a whole week or row of months instead of a half-cut one. Turn it off in Settings → Month View → Snap Scrolling.
• The next-event Live Activity fits the Dynamic Island on every iPhone, including beside another app's activity. Once the event starts, a ring fills through it and the countdown turns to time left, and "Leave by" becomes "Leave now" when it's time to go.
• Now & Next on Apple Watch reads at a glance again, with the time on top in the event's calendar color and room for long titles. Watch settings take effect as soon as you close Settings.
• Move to Calendar reaches every account, and repeating events move between Apple, Google, Outlook and CalDAV calendars with their whole schedule intact. When an account really needs you to sign in again, a quiet line above the calendar says so, with a Reconnect button.
• Event notes written in Google Calendar show as formatted text with working links instead of raw code. Events with a video call offer both Copy Meeting Link and Copy Event Link.
• Plus: the mini calendar's dates are a step larger and Start with Current Week keeps upcoming weeks in view, events longer than a day read "2 days, 3 hr", all-day bars that carry on past the edge of the view end in a point, calendar feeds with plain http:// links from school and team sites subscribe, Calendar Background colors the full Day, Week, Month, Quarter and Year views, swiping events in the expanded Month or Quarter agenda reveals Delete, and compact headings show four-digit years.
