I’ve loved this app since 2012, but they’ve ruined it

Only rating 5 stars so this can be seen. I’ve been using this app since it came out, back when you needed to make your photos square for instagram. It was so simple, straightforward, and easy to use. I even paid for the subscription for a few months to see what it could do.But now that I’m back on the free plan, I don’t even want to use it. Every time you click on the next section(like selecting your photo, cropping, background, shape), a pop up screen appears, prompting you to pay for premium. And you have to wait five seconds before you can click the x to get rid of it. This is so annoying, especially when you have to go through five screens just to make your photo square. I think one add per photo would suffice. The extra 4 don’t make me want to pay, they make me want to quit using the app altogether. Literally use any app besides this one.

Hello! I have rated the app 3 starts if you haven’t already seen, and the reason behind my doing is simply because of AI. I am definitely not a fan of AI art. Not because it is bad quality or anything,(AI can do a lot of great things!) but the fact AI has been gaining lots of fam by being used for art. Human artist who spend hours, even days to work on a single price can get a few thousand views something because the art may have flaws. When a AI makes art, since it isn’t a real person making the art, it has a lot less flaws than if a human were to make it. This troubling because it already can take what feels like forever to make a good price of art that you are truly content with, let alone LEARN how to draw, paint, sculpt, ect. This is coming from someone who likes drawing but isn’t the best at it. I actually want to be a Graphic designer or a Video game designer, which takes lots of practice. I have no problem with AI’s existing or making art, but human artist are struggling to get veiws or make money off of their art. Making art can be hard and expensive. If your a digital artist you usually use a tablet and stylus or a computer. I would just like to share this concern so people can still use AI’s for art but support human artist. Especially if someone is pretending to make something but it was just a robot. Thank you for reading!

I’ve used this app for at least 6 years. Has always performed perfectly, had a lot of great filters/features. It was always my go to. I started noticing more ads which was fine, it happens when an app grows and becomes more successful. If anything I was happy for the creators. However, it got to the point where I would edit, then completely have to exit the app to get the free trial/premium to go away. I would then have to re-edit and there were some occasions I would have to do it multiple times in order to get to the save to camera roll button. This became really tedious and honestly just annoying. Ads, fine. Popping up a lot, fine. Unable to easily exit out the ads? Not fine. I dealt with it anyway.I got a new phone and had a picture that I thought my favorite instasize filter would be perfect with and redownloaded the app.I now can not even access the app without agreeing to a free/premium subscription. I click on and it it takes me to the screen that explains the benefits of premium. There is no “X” button, no option to skip. I press anywhere on the screen and takes me to payment options or click the “continue” button and takes me to payment options. I have closed out of the app numerous times hoping for the prompt to go away and it doesn’t. Idk if the app is now only available through a paid subscription but it does advertise “free” features so that is where I’m confused. Again, there is no option for me not to pay and continue into the free features so I’m very sad to say goodbye to this app.
Almost unusable. The free version isn’t even worth it right now.

Got along with this app fairly well. If they every improved any of its actual problems, I wouldn’t mind ads, or potentially even paying for it. It has gotten progressively worse. They never made it better with simple improvements - you’re still not able to choose more than one photo at a time - and then they took away existing features and put them behind the paywall. I still used it. Then they stuffed it with AI, which I am opposed to, but all of that is behind a paywall so I wasn’t spending money on it. If I had already paid for an app, only for it to add Generative AI which is built on theft from other artists, I would be extremely upset having given my money to thieves. But, since it was the ad-supported free version, I could tell myself I wasn’t. But now every single step of the way, from clicking on a photo, to resizing it, to saving it, a new prompt window launches telling to subscribe. The only option is “continue” but if you hit “continue” it tries to purchase and charge you money. You have to wait until the “x” appears, because they also don’t even show a “greyed out x” indicating you have to wait. (That might violate App Store design terms). You have to wait for this every single time. Adds a few minutes onto each photo, because they’ve removed features and buried them with menus. Again, this is an app the doesn’t even let you do multiple photos at once, so if you want to use multiple photos you’re looking at ten minutes of looking at the same bad prompt every time you press a button. Bad design all around.
