I almost didn’t download this app because of the negative reviews, but I decided I needed to see it for myself. The annual subscription is less than $40, and each project costs about a dollar which in my opinion is extremely worth it and all of my projects so far have been amazing!I have some family members that may not be with us much longer, and I am looking forward to sharing with them some old black-and-white photos that will bring joy to their hearts. 💕 I think it’s amazing and very easy to use! within the first 10 minutes I’ve already created five projects! 🥰✨🙏🏻✨The downside is there is a learning curve. Pay attention to the tips and sometimes the end result is unexpected with errors such as extra fingers or legs. The app doesn’t always interpret things in the photo accurately and you don’t get refunds on bad results.

I purchased the Revive app, which is similar AI technology and was so thrilled with its results that I didn’t hesitate purchasing the Pixly app from what it portrayed on its Facebook ad. I’ve made four projects so far and only one has turned out. The first one did some mermaid effect to the image, which is not what I asked for. The second was supposed to put my image in a short scene with Einstein. The woman in the result was not even close to looking like the image I uploaded. I wish I could paste the two here to show you. Seriously, it was some completely different woman who looked nothing at all like me. The third was an anime. I uploaded a picture of my daughter with her husband and son. This one was close except the little boy in the anime had jet black hair and my grandson’s hair is almost white. The last one, another anime that starts with a front image of my daughter and she swings around as the image turns into an anime rendition of her. That one turned out. You are limited to a number of “coins” you can use before needing to purchase more to make more projects. At a rate of one good project out of four, this app is definitely not worth the price.

Don’t waste your money

I was really hoping this app would work as advertised. But I was hugely disappointed. For one it can take several hours to generate an image. There is no free trial for you to test the app and I am guessing they do that for a reason. The least amount of money you can spend is $8.99 and that is a 1 week commitment. I decided to spend the $8.99 and try the app before I committed to the full year. From the first image I tried generating. It did not work as advertised and at the end of my image. It was mixed with someone else’s picture. I tried another image and it worked better. But still not as advertised. They also make you pay additional money to buy “coins” to generate images. It’s like 10 coins per image and they charge an additional $5 per 50 coins. I cancelled my subscription immediately and requested a refund. The support team got back to me 2 days later and told me they don’t have the ability to refund money and sent me to Apple support. I am hugely disappointed in the whole app and hopefully this review can save someone else the money they would have wasted.

My hopes were crushed

I had high hopes to create some nostalgic animated images from my cherished photos.Every version of an image that the “Retro Motion” function created did not look anything like my parents or other family members in the photo. In one photo, the AI created an extra arm on the person who was supposed to be my mom. When I tried the “Live Photo” function that was supposed to make small movements like blinking, like the example they advertised, the app just slowly moved my submitted photo around the screen. I even chose photos that were clear and centered as suggested. Like gambling I kept submitting photos multiple times in hopes of a better outcome. Alas, each outcome was a disappointment that produced creepy images of the people I loved. Each attempt was also a deduction from the allocated tokens I purchased. My suggestion if you still decide to purchase this app after reading the reviews: choose the cheapest option. I’m left with tokens I don’t even want anymore. It was punishing to see my photos be transformed (read: butchered) into weird versions of themselves.
