NOTE
Salt Shack Minerals is a mineral education and collection app, not a rock identification app.
It is designed to help users learn about minerals, crystal structures, geology, gemstone science, and mineral formation through educational content, quizzes, and collection management tools. Users can also build and catalogue their own digital mineral collection.
While the app teaches the principles of mineral identification, it does not identify rocks or minerals from photos and does not use AI or image recognition.
I have to say this app is a must have for old and new collectors alike. It does more then just help you identify your minerals, it teaches, it quizzes, it helps you keep track of your minerals, so much information in a nice package! I have been a collector for over 30 years and I am over the moon excited about this app, even if you think you know everything I am sure there is something in here you can learn. It’s worth more then what the cost is, a lot of time and effort went in to creating this app and it really shows!! Thank you for putting something out there that is correct and on point.
Developer Response

Awesome

To be honest, the mineral encyclopedia alone makes the app worthwhile. Well worth a pricetag that’s less than that of virtually any likeminded physical text. But there is truly so much more. You are essentially purchasing an entire academic learning experience in several fields of Earth science. Very surprised and happy to finally find an app like this. As an aside, I would love to have an addition or a separate app that focuses on gemology/lapidary to the degree that this app focuses on mineralogy—though I appreciate that the creators are primarily mineral focused.
