Erev: Shabbat Times & Kosher
Jewish calendar, zmanim, scan
Free · In-App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
What time does Shabbat start? Open Erev: Shabbat, holiday and fast times, accurate to the minute, even offline. And the kosher scanner decides for you.
Friday afternoon. One question: what time does Shabbat start?
Erev answers before you even open the app — the countdown lives on your lock screen, updates live, and slips away after havdalah. That's the whole idea: a Jewish app that shows up at the right moment, beautiful and precise, and leaves you alone the rest of the time.
SHABBAT ON YOUR LOCK SCREEN
Candle lighting, havdalah, this week's parsha — as a Live Activity and on the Dynamic Island, without unlocking your phone.
KOSHER? SCAN IT.
Aim at the barcode: a verdict in one second, based only on recognized official lists, sources always shown. "Not listed" never means "not kosher": Erev doesn't guess — it shows you the ingredients and lets you judge. Fresh fish with no barcode? The kosher species list (fins + scales) is built in.
JEWISH TIME, MADE CLEAR
Precise zmanim for your location, a holiday calendar with Fridays and Shabbat marked in gold, and a home screen that knows what you need right now: morning prayer when you wake, candle lighting on Friday, havdalah on Saturday night.
A LIVING LIBRARY
Essential prayers, the right bracha for every food, all 613 mitzvot explained simply, a clear guide for every holiday.
FOUR LIGHTS, ONE SOUL
The app follows the light of the day — dawn, day, dusk, night — and speaks four languages: English, Français, Español, עברית.
FREE.
Zero ads, zero subscriptions, zero accounts, zero tracking. Everything works offline. Spot a mistake? Report it from the app — it gets fixed fast, and the whole community benefits.
Erev is made with love, for every Jew, from every community. Write to us: erev.app@gmail.com
more Tuesday night in New York, Friday noon in Paris: you open Erev and the Shabbat times are already there. The Jewish calendar is now instant, and it works with no signal at all, on a plane, deep inside a store.
Shabbat start and end, fasts, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Chanukah candle lighting: precise times city by city, Jerusalem included. Notifications keep up, fast reminders included.
The kosher scanner is steadier and clearer: it tells you what your lists actually cover, down to Coke Zero.
Shabbat shalom.
3.2.0 1 day ago
The scanner goes v2 — you see it, you feel it, and it always tells the truth.
• Kosher by nature: plain water, salt, sugar, honey, pure coffee and tea come out green with the explanation — these products need no certification at all.
• The whole screen takes the verdict's color: a breathing green glow for yes, amber for doubt, red for no. And the phone vibrates differently for each answer — you know before you read.
• Even fairer verdicts: every list is applied exactly as written, product by product, variety by variety.
• No more dead ends: product not listed? Search opens pre-filled with its name.
• Reporting an error now sends the full context (photo, barcode, sources) — and copies itself if you have no mail app.
• "Before eating" now knows everyday foods: chips, popcorn, hummus, nutella, chewing gum…
3.1.0 10 Jul
Thank you for your feedback on the scanner — this update gives it the precision it deserved.
• Kosher scanner: products in the official lists are now recognized, even when the scanned name differs from the official one.
• Fairer verdicts: Kosher · Listed with a condition · Brand in your lists (with varieties to compare) · Not kosher when the label declares crustaceans, molluscs or pork · Manufacturer stamp flagged.
• Each list is applied by its own rule, with its jurisdiction shown (Consistoire — France, OU — international).
• Weekly parasha: fixed a cache that could show an outdated parasha.
• Display fixes: last entry of More, Calendar and Library screens was hidden by the navigation bar.
3.0.1 8 Jul
Erev 3.0 — our biggest update yet.
• Shabbat live on your lock screen (Live Activity + Dynamic Island)
• Kosher scanner: instant verdict, sources shown, ingredients, kosher fish
• Redesigned home: it knows what you need, right now
• Instant calendar, Fridays and Shabbat in gold
• Four light themes + faster navigation
Thank you for your feedback — it shapes Erev. erev.app@gmail.com
3.0.0 7 Jul
Version 2.2.0 turns EREV into a real prayer companion.
• New Prayers tab — 13 essential prayers: Modeh Ani, morning and bedtime Shema, Amidah, Friday-night Kiddush, Netilat Yadayim, HaMotzi, Birkat HaMazon, Tefilat HaDerech, Psalm 23, candle lighting, Asher Yatzar. Vocalized Hebrew + transliteration + translation, aligned verse by verse.
• Sefaria-sourced texts — Verses come from Sefaria (CC BY-SA), the open standard for Jewish texts. Bundled, works offline.
• Show what you want — Three independent toggles (Hebrew / Phonetic / Translation). Hide any layer; your choice is remembered across every prayer.
• Verse-level cues — "Shabbat only", "First night of a Yom Tov", "Silently", "Bare essentials", "To go deeper"… You always know what you're saying and when.
• Blessings picker — Type "apple", "coke", "pasta": the app recognizes ~300 foods and tells you the bracha. Visual picker with 6 icons too.
• Smart countdowns — "Before 8:12 — Sof Zman Shema" on the morning tile, "in 2h15" on Friday's candle tile. Urgent prayers turn amber.
• Compass link — From Amidah or Tefilat HaDerech, a button to face Jerusalem.
• Birkat HaMazon reminder — Mark HaMotzi as said and a gentle reminder fires 25 minutes later.
• Haptics throughout — Tile taps, toggles, "I said it" confirmations: tactile feedback everywhere.
• Shabbat & holiday notifications fixed — Scheduling engine rebuilt. Reminders resume correctly after every update.
2.2.0 20 May
Version 2.0.2 mainly improves timing reliability and startup consistency.
Restart location fixed: the app now restores the last known place and silently refreshes the current position when possible.
Local time display fixed: resolved a timezone issue that could show an hour behind on some screens.
Shabbat times refined: better handling of the actual timezone and daylight-saving logic for displayed times.
Smarter Shabbat exit in France: automatic mode now follows a convention that better matches widely used references.
Faster holiday startup: first holiday content appears sooner, while the wider range continues loading in the background.
Study screen dark-mode polish: improved card readability and removed a washed-out overlay on some lists.
