Hosting your family and close friends for dinner can be stressful. So imagine hosting a group of total strangers who will be judging every single element of your evening. This, in a nutshell, is the premise of reality show Come Dine With Me. Inspired by the UK edition, the Arabic-language version follows the same format – but with some extra Middle Eastern touches.
Season 2 of this OSN original arrives just in time for Ramadan and there are plenty of surprises on the menu, like the episode shot completely outdoors at a traditional Emirati farm owned by one of the participants. Here’s a taster of what’s to come.
The plot: each week four people take turns hosting a dinner party for the group at their homes. All the contestants have a passion for cooking and entertaining guests, but with their different backgrounds, tastes and styles, the dinner-time chat makes for great TV.
The host’s main mission: serving their three guests an appetiser, a main course, a dessert and, of course, showing off their hospitality skills. At the end of each week, after each participant has played host, they’ll rate each other’s performance. It won’t always be five-star reviews – expect some harsh critiques!
The secret to the show’s success: the interactions between the contestants who come from different parts of the Middle East, including Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq and Saudi Arabia – it’s a delight to see the mix of cultures and cuisines. On top of that, comedian and series narrator Khalid Mansour brings a big dollop of humour to every episode.
The big twist in season 2: in the last two weeks of the competition, couples will compete against each other instead of individuals. What’s more, some parrots, horses and huskies will be making a special appearance.
