Pointless Free Countries Selection — Always Connects to Netherlands
Srbuk
I’m really getting tired of this. You advertise that free users can connect to 5 different countries, but you don’t give us the option to actually choose them. Every time I connect, it automatically goes to the Netherlands, and there’s no way to select any of the other countries. What’s the point of offering 5 free locations if you don’t let us pick which one to use? This is misleading and very frustrating. Either let free users select the available countries or stop advertising it as a feature.
Developer Response
The default auto-connect option will connect you to the fastest available server for you. This leads to better load balancing and higher speed, which is a priority for free users. That said, you still have the option to switch to another randomly allocated server, or you can upgrade to connect to a specific server in a country of your choice (https://protonvpn.com/pricing).
Has difficulties in Russia, but devs are actively working on it
Andrei Sharapov
This VPN is currently being actively blocked in Russia, so you may have difficulty connecting to some servers using the default settings. However, the devs are working on it and are ready to help - contact them if you have troubles, they may suggest how to tweak your settings to achieve connectivity 👍
Developer Response
Hi! We're sorry to hear that. We are working with highest priority on finding a workaround for the Russian block. We cannot ensure you that you will be able to successfully connect, however, for now, we suggest switching to the OpenVPN – TCP protocol and trying the 'Quick connect' option. Also, try connecting to individual servers manually, while on OpenVPN – TCP to see if it helps. Here is a guide on how to switch protocols: https://protonvpn.com/support/how-to-change-vpn-protocols/. Please contact us through the 'Report an Issue' option in the app menu for further help.
Super!
