RainViewer: Rain Radar Live
Storm Tracker: Map & Alerts
Free · In-App Purchases · Designed for iPad
How much rain falls, and how fast: rainfall totals are now available in your hourly and daily chart. Free trial with Essential or Pro.
Live weather radar, nowcast and rain alerts, hyperlocal forecast and hurricane tracker, built to help you see, understand, and act on rain before it changes.
Tracking a hurricane’s path or just checking if it’s dry enough for a walk? RainViewer shows the actual rain on the map. Data reaches your screen in seconds, direct from the radar source, not a third-party feed. 10 million downloads.
RAIN FIRST
We rearranged the forecast tab to put nowcast and radar at the top. The minute-by-minute rain intensity chart shows when rain starts, peaks, and stops, with a radar map preview and temperature beside it. Cleaner hourly and daily charts now show rainfall totals. The chance of rain is only half the picture: how much falls, and how fast, makes the difference.
BUILT FOR IPHONE DUO
RainViewer adapts radar map to every pose in Duo: open it and your locations sit beside the forecast on the inner display, with more hours and days at once; close it and the forecast follows you to the outer display; in landscape, navigation moves to the side and the rain stays in focus.
THE RADAR MAP YOU ACTUALLY USE
• 2-hour rain nowcast updated every 10 minutes.
• Tap the map to see rain details on every layer.
• Fullscreen mode clears the interface for clean screenshots and storm animations.

more RAIN FIRST
The forecast screen is rebuilt. It still reads the way you know it, but the answer you came for is now at the top: nowcast and radar first, then everything else in cards.
· The rain chart, the radar preview and the temperature come first now. Weather alerts sit below them, not above. Tap the preview and the map opens at that spot on the radar layer
· Hourly and daily charts show how much rain falls, not only the chance of it. "Past 24h" and "Next 24h" totals sit next to the summary (Essential and Pro)
· The daily chart shows the chance of rain for the day and for the night as two values, not one, plus the rainfall total for each day, and it is clear which night belongs to which day
· Sunrise, air quality and the AI summary each have their own card, and the AI answer stays while the forecast refreshes
· Locations list and search are new: swipe to reorder, rename or delete, and one search for saved and new places
· On iPad and Mac, your locations stay in a sidebar and the forecast uses two columns
BUILT FOR IPHONE DUO
Not a stretched iPhone layout. Every screen in RainViewer was rethought for a phone that opens, closes and stands up: map, player, forecast, search, share, settings, onboarding and the tutorial.
· Open it and the map simply grows to the whole inner display. Every control and the spot you were looking at stay where they were. Panels open beside the map instead of over it: pick a colour scheme and see it on the map at once, read a storm's details beside the storm, set up a share beside its preview
· Open it on the forecast and your locations sit beside it, with more hours and days at once
· Close it and everything follows you to the outer display, with native navigation in every orientation
· Half open, the forecast splits at the fold and the share preview uses both halves
· In landscape, navigation moves to the side bar and the rain stays in focus
· Every orientation works, including upside down
MORE ROOM FOR THE RAIN
· Landscape now works on every iPhone, on the map and in the forecast
· On iOS 26, when you move the map or scroll the forecast, the player and the tab bar shrink on their own and come back when you stop
IMPROVEMENTS
· The tap-on-map card has a new look
· Map layers are now named "Tropical Storms" and "Rain Direction"
· Rain alert levels are now Light, Moderate, Heavy and Extreme, the same scale as the map legend
· Forecast text follows your text size setting as you change it
FIXES
· Offline, every screen shows an error with "Retry", and the forecast no longer waits on old cached data
· Ads disappear right after a purchase, no restart needed
· The widget time badge shows the time again with the clear or tinted Home Screen style
· Storm track dates show the month in Arabic, Thai and Khmer; "Live Activities", "Update RainViewer" and the Feature Tour are localised
· "Change plan" in Subscription Details is readable again

· The app is smaller, so it downloads and updates faster
SHARE
· On iPhone, the shared image shows more of the map
· On iPad, the menu no longer appears in the shared image
· The date and time in the shared image follow your device format and are no longer cut off
FIXES
· Small Craft and Tropical Cyclone alerts show their own icons, and Tropical Cyclone alerts are no longer shown as Severe Weather

· The onboarding tour points to the map legend again
· Menu and title positions are correct on iPad and Mac

DATA TIME ON EVERY LAYER
The time on the player is the time of the frame, not the time of the data. A forecast model can be hours old, and a satellite image can be older than its frame.
· With Premium, tap any point on any layer to see when the data at that point was measured or calculated
· The details stay open when you move the map, zoom or switch layers, so you can compare values at one point
· To close the details, tap the details or an empty spot on the map
· Outside radar coverage, the details show "No coverage", and all text appears in your language
GLASS ON THE MAP
· The player, the speed and interval controls and the bottom menu now use the same glass
· The selected option is clear in the dark theme, and long radar names fit in the radar menu
· Close buttons and onboarding buttons match the current iOS design
SHARE BUTTON
· The "Share" button is back under the current location button, with the same radar video and GIF sharing as before. Fullscreen mode stays
PLAYER
· The collapsed player shows the date when the frame is not from today
· Rain direction arrows no longer freeze during playback at 4x and 6x
FIXES AND IMPROVEMENTS
· Map animation is smooth again: rain and clouds move between frames instead of jumping
· The satellite layer is cleaner and sharper across the whole world, and clouds now show relief
· Switching the AI toggle back to the regular forecast no longer closes the app
· The tab bar no longer disappears when you open the app from a Live Activity or a notification in fullscreen mode
· The map no longer flashes bright colours when you switch from satellite to radar
· The last search results are no longer hidden behind the keyboard
· RainViewer complications now appear on watch faces added from the app
· Layout fixes for the "Edit Name" dialogue, the plan cards and the "i" button with large system text
Enjoying RainViewer? A quick review helps more people find it.

FEATURES GUIDE
Many subscribers never open the features they pay for. The new "Features Guide" shows every Premium feature on its own page and opens it in the app with one tap. The guide appears after a purchase or a trial start, and is always available in Settings > "Features Guide" - for free users too.
PLAYER
· The radar update interval switch is back on the player: "5 min" standard, or "2 min" with Premium for a smoother animation
· Archive playback at 4x and 6x over 24-48 hours no longer stops to buffer - frames load once and the loop runs without pauses
FIXES
· The alerts layer no longer enables itself when you tap or dismiss an alert notification, and alert areas no longer get darker as you pan
· Widgets no longer show "Location no longer available" after a reinstall
· Fixed two top crashes: opening a location from a notification or a widget, and the watch face widget on watchOS 10
· Premium features and settings update right after a purchase
· The "i" button on the map is no longer cut off

MORE MAP, LESS INTERFACE
You open RainViewer to answer one question - where is the rain right now, and where is it going. The map screen is rebuilt around that answer: the most accurate radar, the fastest updates, and very little else on the screen.
· The redesigned layer button shows which layer you are viewing - "Radar" or "Satellite" is always visible, and the full layer menu is one tap away
· A new fullscreen button gives the map the whole screen - the simplest way to capture the radar and share it as a screenshot or a screen recording
· Map buttons that few people used are removed, so the map stays clear
· The player is more compact, and the arrow button opens playback options in one place: past and forecast intervals, animation speed and more
GLASS DESIGN ON IPHONE AND IPAD
The player, the tab bar and fullscreen mode use the glass style of the latest iOS, so the map stays visible through the controls.
· iPad has its own layout, new navigation and the same glass design
· On iPad the map stays correct at any window size
APPLE WATCH APP
· The watch app was rebuilt in the previous update, with a radar complication on the watch face and an hourly forecast for the next 12 hours - 24 hours with Premium. If you have an Apple Watch, give it a try

APPLE WATCH APP, REBUILT
Rain is easiest to dodge when the answer is already on your wrist. The watch app keeps the design you know, rebuilt under the hood to be the perfect companion to the iPhone app — it opens instantly, runs faster and is ready for iOS 27.
· A new watch face complication shows the live radar around you, with up to 3 forecast frames marked "+N min"
· The hourly forecast now scrolls through the next 12 hours, or 24 hours with Premium, and shows every metric from the iPhone app, including wind
· A new radar preview on the forecast screen shows the radar around that location
· The new radar map uses the RainViewer style and shows precipitation direction arrows with Premium
RADAR WIDGETS
· Every radar widget now shows the time of the radar frame on display
· Widgets include forecast frames marked "+N min", so a widget keeps showing where the rain is heading between updates

LIVE ACTIVITY REDESIGN
A rain alert is only useful if you can read it at a glance – on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island, or on your wrist. The Live Activity has been redesigned around that moment.
· Apple Watch now shows a readable, uncropped rain timeline
· The Dynamic Island shows rain status in both compact and expanded views
· When precipitation ends, the card tells you what ended and where
· An "Outdated" label appears when the data is more than 15 minutes old
IMPROVEMENTS
· The interface now matches the system style on iOS 18 – headers, menus and settings screens look native again
· Settings screens on iPad use comfortable margins in landscape
· The trial reminder notification now opens your subscription details – plan, price, next charge date, and a direct way to manage or cancel
FIXES
· A single radar image no longer stays on the map after you exit single radar mode
· The coverage overlay now disappears from the map when you switch it off

7.25 27 Aug
SMOOTHER, FRESHER RADAR
· Radar and satellite animation now runs on a new frame scheduler - smoother playback and scrubbing, no flickers or black frames
· When radar data auto-updates, the player timeline now refreshes with it - you always watch the latest frames, not an outdated loop
· Forecast and Live Activity icons now tell you more: light rain, downpour, freezing rain, ice pellets, and extreme precipitation each get their own icon
FIXES
· The purchase screen no longer keeps reappearing after a Pro subscription expires
· Map overlays unlock properly after Pro Radar is turned off
· Lock screen widgets show previews in the widget picker again
· Precipitation units (mm/h) are back in the legend
· Widget text is no longer truncated in Arabic
· Plus polish for notifications, dropdowns, Favourites, and the Mac app

SETTINGS, REBUILT
The Settings screen has been rebuilt from the ground up - cleaner, faster to scan, and laid out the way you'd expect. Two new controls are worth opening it for:
· Animation speed - play the radar timeline up to 4x faster or slower. The default keeps your current speed
· Units now follow your device automatically and update the moment you change them, so you're no longer stuck with the units you launched with
A CLEARER MAP
· One precipitation intensity scale everywhere - the map, the legend, tap-to-read values, and your notifications finally match. Rain and hail now share one scale, since a strong radar reading isn't always rain
· You can now switch colour schemes right from the legend for the precipitation layers: weather radar, satellite precipitation, and the 72-hour forecast. Go and find the one that suits you
· Show or hide the legend whenever you like, right from the legend itself
· Map Layers regrouped so related layers sit together
FIXES
· Favourites now scrolls all the way, so you can reach and reorder every saved place
· The Source page scrolls to the bottom at the largest text size
· Live Activities settings now scale with your system font size

RADAR EVERY 2 MINUTES
Rain can change a lot in five minutes. Now you can cut the wait in half — switch radar to a 2-minute refresh and watch storms build almost in real time.
· Tap "Fast" right on the map to update radar every 2 minutes instead of the standard 5
· Catch fast-moving cells the moment they form
· A Premium option — switch back to Standard whenever you like

7.22 22 Jun
SMOOTHER ON EVERY LAYER
Radar used to jump from frame to frame. Now every layer flows as one continuous animation — the way weather actually moves.
· Fluid 60fps playback across radar, satellite, temperature, the 72-hour forecast, and Pro Radar products like velocity and ZDR
· Tap any spot, even mid-animation, to read the exact value there
· Subscribers can turn on "Exact Frames" to step through frame by frame, no animation
Enjoying Rain Viewer? A quick review helps more people find it.
7.21 18 Jun
DRIZZLE ALERTS
Drizzle is too light to trigger a rain alert, yet wet enough to ruin a walk. Rain notifications now have a "Drizzle" intensity – a new level above "Light".
· Select "Drizzle" for any saved place to be notified about the lightest rain
· New places use "Drizzle" by default; existing settings are unchanged
ALERT RELIABILITY
One failed network request during setup could mean rain alerts never arrive. The app now retries until the server confirms registration.
FIXES
· Lock screen Live Activity no longer stops updating after 15 minutes
· Widget shows precipitation at the same size as the main map
· Shared GIF and video files no longer include the search bar
· The searched location pin is no longer hidden behind a favourite pin
· Settings and Favourites fit the screen with long languages and large text

7.20.1 9 Jun
NEW
· Too many rain alerts? Now you can choose how many you get each day — 3, 6, or no limit
· A fresh app icon, with light, dark and tinted versions to match your Home Screen
· Search now drops a pin on the map, so you can see exactly where a result is
· New to Rain Viewer? A quick guided tour shows you around the map
FIXES
· Tapping the map in a severe weather alert area now shows radar details again, even with Pro Radar on
· Returning subscribers no longer hit an "Offer Not Available" message at checkout
· Settings text is no longer cut off in longer languages
· Paywall text is now centred correctly on iPad

RAINFALL TOTALS (QPE)
Weather radar shows what's falling right now - not how much has already fallen. Did your area get a soaking last night, or barely a sprinkle? Should you reschedule the trail run after the storm, or is the ground dry enough?
The new "Rainfall Totals" layer puts a measured number on the map: real rain, totalled across the window you choose - built from weather radar, not forecasts or satellite estimates.
· Premium feature for Pro subscribers, available wherever radar coverage exists
· Choose a window of 1, 3, 12, 24 or 48 hours
· Tap any spot for the exact amount, in millimetres or inches based on your locale
· Colour scale classifies intensity from Trace to Extreme at a glance
Have a question or suggestion? Get in touch via the app's Settings > Send Feedback.
7.19 21 May
MUTE FOR TODAY
Got a rain alert at the wrong moment? You can now silence it without opening the app. Every notification includes a "Mute for Today" action.
NOTIFICATIONS
We've removed the "accuracy" setting and changed the default, so light rain and drizzle reach you too — not just heavy downpours.
FIXES
· Lock Screen Live Activity no longer shows "Sunny" while it's actively raining
· Hourly forecast scrolls and responds to taps immediately — no extra tap needed
· Weather layout stays correct when Larger Text is enabled in iOS settings
· Search no longer jumps while typing in Arabic
ALSO IN 7.18
Tap any point on the radar to see exactly when that area was last scanned — so you know whether to wait out the rain or head out now.
Have a question or suggestion? Get in touch via Settings > Send Feedback in the app.
7.18.1 14 May
RADAR SCAN AGE
Radar data is never truly live. The map combines hundreds of stations into a single frame, and parts of it can be minutes older than the timestamp shown on the player. Should you head out now, or wait out the rain? The answer depends on how old the radar is where you are.
· Tap any point on the radar layer to see when that spot was last scanned
· Saved locations display a green, amber, or red freshness label next to your current conditions
· Player time labels switch from "Scan" to "Frame" on non-radar layers
LIVE ACTIVITIES
· The rain duration Live Activity now appears automatically when rain is on the way, even if the app is closed (iOS 17.2 and later)
FIXES
· Map layers redraw in the correct order after the app returns from the background
· The animation now auto-plays on launch instead of stalling on the first frame
· "Hourly Forecast" and wind direction sections are now visible on iPadOS
· Onboarding artwork scales correctly on iPad
· The "Close" button on the radar station card responds on the first tap on Mac
Got a question or suggestion? Get in touch via the app's Settings > Send Feedback.
7.18 11 May
ONBOARDING
· Reworked first-launch onboarding
IMPROVEMENTS
· Tapping the name of your selected radar now opens the "Nearest Radars" list without clearing your selection
· Your selected radar appears in the list with a tick, even when it's no longer among the nearest stations
· Tapping the selected radar in the list deselects it
Have a question or suggestion? Contact us via the app Settings > Send Feedback.
7.17 30 Apr

· Search bar has balanced left and right padding on iPad and Mac
Have a question or suggestion? Contact us via the app Settings > Send Feedback.

Have a question or suggestion? Contact us via the app Settings > Send Feedback.
7.15 2 Apr
UNIFIED RADAR SELECTION

· "Nearest Radars" button shows the 3 closest stations to your current map centre
· Button label updates dynamically to display the selected radar name
· Redesigned product dropdown with cleaner selection lists
· Colour scheme and smoothing remain active until you select a specific radar station

· Red means the data is fresh and updated within the last 15 minutes.
· Grey means the latest available frame is older than 15 minutes.

· Switching from PRO radar to standard Radar no longer causes missing data.
Stay tuned! Wind direction coming in the next update.
