ViewCam allows you to view live video and audio from IP cameras (also known as network cameras or IP surveillance cameras). ONVIF support ensures that ViewCam can work with virtually all IP cameras on the market, and also many hardware NVRs (Network Video Recorders), such as Dahua, Hikvision and Amcrest models. Additional features include instant replay of recent video, image capture, group windows, live audio, and camera control (PTZ - Pan/Tilt/Zoom - and image controls like sharpness and focus).
The main features of ViewCam are:

ViewCam is exceptional

First off, this guy is an excellent programmer for Mac. If you have a need for software to monitor IP cams, his software is second to none, IMO. I have used his high end SecuritySpy for a long time but it was always major overkill for a hobbyist. SecuritySpy is very capable but is quite expensive for a hobbyist with lots of IP cameras with little need for NVR capability or high-end security capabilities. Fortunately, ViewCam is the perfect solution for a simpler but still capable viewing platform. With > 12 cameras, It loads every camera (WAN & LAN) faster than my camera providers proprietary software can load the first. No unnecessary borders and a tight viewing port, easily configured to arbitrary rows/columns. Not to be overly dramatic or hyperbolic, but I am so happy to have found ViewCam and thankful he developed this more basic and affordable version of his powerful SecuritySpy.
Love this app!

Been a customer for a number of years now. Back in 2016 I set up a security system at my parents' house using some IP cameras and SecuritySpy on an old 2012 Mac Mini so when I saw ViewCam I was sure the product was excellent. I was not disappointed.ViewCam is everything I wanted as a SecurityCam viewer on my Macbook Pro. Nice clean interface. Doesn't hog system resources. Basically "just works". I load the app, go fullscreen, and just 3 finger swipe over to it in the blink of an eye when I need a view of my cameras. Dead simple and effective.Setup is very easy and is very similar to setting up SecuritySpy if you've ever done that. Ben Software products do a great job of autodiscovering devices that support that. If your devies are ONVIF chances are you'll be able to set them up using autodiscover without issue.
Just what I was looking for!

I've used SecuritySpy a long time ago. It filled my need, but had many features I never used, but drive up the cost. While searching the app store one day for something else altogether, I came across ViewCam. The cost is reasonable and it does everything I need it to. The developer has recently updated it, so it stays current unlike a lot of "abandonware" on the app store. Highly recommended!
Works ok - tends to lose connectin to cams

Hoping this is fixed in a future release. The app often loses contact with some or all of the cameras and I have to close the app and re-open it. Support did respond to my ticket and they're hoping it gets fixed in a future release. The scan function will only scan the current subnet - many folks put their cameras on a different subnet or VLAN. This won't find them, though manually provisioning them does seem to work.
- Option to enable/disable audio for each camera
- Improved language translations
