Still looking for a photo app that works quickly with HEIC over AFP
Cdubster76
I use a 6-bay NAS server to store my photo files rather than using Apple photos (multiple reasons, including flexible protection and sharing without Apple associated constraints with iCloud), and have been looking for an application that can perform basic photo operations (browse, preview, copy, edit, etc) quickly on HEIC files produced by Apple products from the AFP shares on my NAS. This product, while feature rich and well organized, still exhibits many similar constraints as Finder, including slow loading times from things such as expanding a folder in the tree to clicking back and forth between folders with HEIC files in them. In my network, these types of operations can take 5-10 seconds to complete (spinning wheel, app is effectively "frozen"), which is frustratingly slow. This problem is not as impactful on Windows Explorer using mapped drives to the same shares, typically with 3-4 seconds of delay. So I find it challenging that Apple and its' ecosystem has not implemented better performance for working with HEIC files given its use of the format as a driving point for the ecosystem. While I would like to divorce myself from having to use Windows, time is precious and despite its constraints Windows Explorer still does this task better than Apple does. I was hoping this app would resolve this, but I will continue my search unless there are specific optimizations that the developer would like to comment on within some type of guide or performance document.
Great Online Support

I have been using Apollo One for some time mainly to view and cull unwanted RAW photos from my camera before transferring them to Affinity Photo for processing. I also use Apollo One for jpeg slide shows and quick review of my processed photos. Apollo One offers many features I am not familiar with due to my resistance to read the manual in detail. This fact recently came back to haunt me as I started having trouble viewing new photos from a source Apollo had not integrated into it’s finder system as instructed in the manual. I reached out to Apollo Ones support email for help. Much to my surprise I received a reply within a few hours and after a few quick email exchanges my problem was solved. I don’t believe I have ever received such rapid support and helpful suggestions from a software developer. These guys ROCK! Now I’m going to have to read the all of the manual and learn what I have missed about this great program.
A terrific application for rapid review and image culling

ApolloOne is a terrific app for ingesting, filtering, tagging, viewing, and culling images. It has a full EXIF viewer, including all Maker Notes, allowing a deep dive into every camera setting used in a particular photo. For people who find Photo Mechanic (™) geeky and difficult to use, who find Lightroom Classic's ingestion speed too slow, or other application software too slow for moving images from card to computer, ApolloOne is the solution. It is blazingly fast at ingesting images. it renders images from their raw formats to allow viewing, starring, color tagging, keywording, marking for deletion. It is, for me, a complete replacement for all of MY uses of Photo Mechanic with a much more modern and sleek interface. It is very feature rich (indeed, read the help files to learn the depth of its features). Used with a conventional editing program like Lightroom or Photoshop, ApolloOne is the perfect compliment for cleaning up a photo session before committing them to a catalog structure.Customer support is fast, and new cameras are added within a few days of their release, especially if the developer has copies of their variety of raw files. Highly recommended.

Awesome - Exactly what I wanted

Faced with Adobe software that won’t work with the next MAC-OS upgrade and a large photo library, I have been desparately looking at ways to accomplish a basic photo management scheme on my own, using the MAC OS native indexing to store, search and filter metadata, keywords, etc. Something that won’t go obsolete if a software package goes obsolete or becomes too expensive. I was looking at a simple photo viewer to help accomplish this task when I found ApolloOne. Amazingly, it does everything I am trying to accomplish and it is up to date and already works with the next version of the MAC OS. I can think of a few minor update requests that I will send to the developer, but overall I am very pleased. I can set this up in a way that will not damage my photo libraries. I am not sure if I will use the interface to move libraries, safer to do that in the file system I think.I think this app, by it’s structure, will not have the destructive results caused by some OpenSource PhotoManagers- but it always pays to back up.I bought the Pro Version of ApolloPro. I am using SilkyPix DS PRO 8E for all my photoediting going forward, I have used SilkyP for years in addition to Adobe Products for both my Panasonic and Nikon cameras.
