Best music and more!
I have been listening for 50 years (KKHI & KDFC). It’s the best select of music and I especially enjoy the music history and education! The app is great also and a tip for “spazz dad” who was unhappy with the occasional poor performance of the app. The performance of the app is totally dependent upon your internet data signal. Weather you are using wifi or cell phone data. The signal is just a radio signal from a transmitter (your wifi router or your cell phone’s transmitter tower). Check the number of bars at the top of the cell phone screen to see the strength of your data signal. If you only have 1 or 2 bars you have a weak signal and the quality of the sound may suffer. Try moving to a different location or switching to wifi, or turning off wifi to change your signal source. Good luck.
A big piece of my childhood updated
I grew up visiting my grandparents in Belmont. They always had KDFC playing on the radio - 24/7. We would also listen in the car. For whatever reason, the area where they lived did not have the best reception, so there was always a slight amount of static. I actually went many years listening to classical music with static. The great thing about the app is that you can take the station with you anywhere and there is no static. I also like that you can see what song is playing. It’s a great way to learn what you are listening to. I don’t have it on 24/7, but I do frequently start my mornings and my weekends by listening to KDFC. It takes me back to my childhood and I love learning new things from the listening.
A great classical music source for the Bay Areas
I rely on KDFC for classical music and appreciate the improvements since going listener supported: more complete compositions (though single movements are sneaking in more with the associated pros and cons）and more representation of good-to-great less well known music. (I keep hoping I will hear a particular Prokofiev flute or piano sonata over the air, but I appreciate nearly all the pieces KDFC plays!) The classical favorites poll is good, but it is like committing to your favorite child, and other favorites could get left behind because Beethoven’s Ninth is such an extraordinary work. I wonder what might show up if people could vote for their 5, 10, or 20 favorites! Whatever you do, KDFC, keep it coming, and all of us should keep on supporting you!
