Thanks for trying SumSpot, and sorry it let you down. I'd like to know what went wrong. The next update fixes a bug where summaries fail on some sites, including Substack and other news sites, with a "could not reach the summary service" message. It's in review with Apple now. If you saw that message, the update may help.If it was something else, please email me at support@sumspot.app with the site you were on and what happened. I read every message and will reply myself!
SumSpot now works on iPad, with more subscription options, a roomier Safari popup, and more reliable summaries across the web.
Enable the Safari extension in Settings > Apps > Safari > Extensions.
New
• Native iPad support! SumSpot now runs as a real iPad app instead of a scaled-up iPhone app.
• New weekly and annual plans: Choose weekly, monthly, or annual subscription. Every plan includes *unlimited* summaries.
• Manage Subscription: Switch plans or cancel right in the SumSpot companion app
• A new, cleaner app icon!
Improved
• Prettier summaries: Bullets, headings, and bold text now render properly in the Safari popup.
• More room to read on iPad and Mac: The Safari popup is now wide enough for comfortable reading, and the website address no longer gets cut off.
• Clearer summary status: You’ll see a spinner while SumSpot is working
• Clearer subscription message: When you’ve used all 7 free summaries, the Safari popup now explains that you’ve reached your free limit and can subscribe to keep summarizing.
• Extension status: The app now shows when SumSpot last ran in Safari, making it easier to spot when the extension needs attention.
• Simpler setup: Instructions now match the latest Safari settings and recommend allowing access on every website so SumSpot can work without repeated permission prompts.
• More accurate time saved: SumSpot now measures the article itself instead of counting menus, ads, and other page clutter.
Fixed
• Fixed “SumSpot could not reach the summary service” errors caused by Safari extension permissions.
• Improved summaries on news sites and other pages with large amounts of hidden page content.
• Prevented the summarize button from being covered by sticky bars and ads.
• Fixed the summarize button getting stuck on “summarizing” when a page has no readable text. SumSpot now times out and offers Try Again.
• Fixed subscription links from Safari opening the app without taking you to the subscription screen.
• Fixed prices and subscription links wrapping incorrectly at some text sizes.
