I liked the Google maps feature but didn’t like them collecting it (and I think they might be killing it off soon) so when I saw I could host it myself privately while still getting to see my travels, I did so ASAP. The app has been working great for me so far and hasn’t had any effect on battery!

Mostly good, however there is an annoying bug where every once in awhile when opening the app, it shows a line going across the map like you teleported. It goes away after a force reset. And also just overall reactivity on the app, needing to quit and reopen to load changes often

• See your family’s shared locations and trails on the map, request their location, and choose how long to share yours. Control how much location history you share, with a countdown for timed sharing. Family sharing requires server support and family access.
• Sync tracking and upload settings across your devices, with the option to keep settings local.
• Choose kilometers or miles across maps, Stats, Insights, and Digests.
• Find tracking controls together in one screen, including Detailed and Battery saver modes.
• Enjoy smoother map browsing, with fixes for freezes and the map snapping back while you pan.
• Routes now show gaps where recording paused instead of drawing misleading straight lines.
• Apple Health workout imports save routes more reliably and let you retry previously incomplete imports.
• Improved background tracking, upload status messages, and yearly digest refreshes.
