Peek 1.1 is a redesign. The window now looks and behaves like the Finder windows it sits next to. • The window controls moved into a native toolbar, and the footer capsules became a single path bar that shows where you are in the archive. • The inspector is one column: preview, info and comments, without the cards. • Renaming happens in the row, the way Finder does it. • The empty window leads with Open and New, and lists your recent and favourite archives. • Search says what it is searching — names or contents — and counts the matches; the toolbar counts what you have not saved yet. • The verification report opens with a verdict and groups its findings. • Comparing two archives opens its own window, with a table of differences, a diff pane, and a band summarising version and dependency changes. • Batch extractions and conversions are audited: the summary is a table of what was written, and where. • The password prompt is now an alert-style sheet, and so is the save review. • Peek Pro explains what it unlocks before any purchase, and resumes the action you were trying to take. Fixes: the toolbar no longer claims "No archive open" while one is open; archive errors, verification findings and the new folder name are translated; counts read correctly in the singular; the inspector keeps acronyms in file type names; and the working-copy mark only appears for files you opened in another app.

Deeper verification • Verify now also checks archives for security risks without extracting them: paths that escape the folder, symbolic links pointing outside, compression bombs, executables, deceptive names and duplicate entries. • Export the results as a text report. • Integrity manifests: save the paths, sizes and SHA-256 checksums of an archive, then confirm later that it hasn't changed with "Verify Against Manifest…". • New Shortcuts action to verify an archive and create its manifest. Privacy • Private mode: archives you open aren't added to Recents and the session isn't saved. • Abandoned working copies are removed automatically after the number of days you choose. • A new option deletes Recents, Favorites, the saved session and stored passwords in one step. Create and convert • Reproducible output: identical inputs produce byte-for-byte identical archives. Archive list • New "Column view" setting: compact, or all columns with horizontal scrolling. • Accessibility improvements in the inspector and preview. Fixes • Ordinary .tar.gz, .tar.xz and .tar.zst archives no longer show a false "hidden items" warning. • Peek no longer asks for your keychain password at launch. • Extraction checks free space on the destination disk and stops safely before filling it. • Stability and performance improvements.

NEW • Windows ISOs. Peek now reads the UDF file system, so you can browse and extract what a Windows ISO actually contains — including sources/install.wim — instead of just the placeholder readme other tools show. • Split and join WIM images. Turn an install.wim larger than 4 GB into .swm parts you can copy to a FAT32 USB drive, and join them back when you need to. All inside Peek, with no external tools. • Sort by column. Click Name, Size, Compressed or Modified to sort the list, and click again to reverse it. Folders stay on top, the order applies inside every folder too, and your choice is remembered next time you open the app. FASTER • Extraction is up to 13× faster on .tar.gz and .tar.xz archives with many files: the archive is now decompressed in a single pass instead of once per file. • Archives open in the background, so the window no longer locks up while a large one is read. • Previewing large text files no longer freezes the window. • Faster Finder thumbnails for very large archives. BETTER ON SCREEN • Columns adapt to the window width instead of being cut off when the inspector is open. • Folder pickers now appear attached to their own window, so your other Peek windows stay usable. • The file list works with VoiceOver. • When an operation is already running, Peek tells you which one instead of ignoring the click. SAFER • Extraction refuses archives whose entries point outside the destination folder, whether through the path itself or a symbolic link. • Damaged or malformed ISOs can no longer take down previews or thumbnails.

Peek's biggest update yet. NEW — NATIVE 7-ZIP ENGINE - Create and edit encrypted .7z archives, with an option to hide the file names inside the archive. - Much faster compression with multithreaded LZMA2. - Edit encrypted 7z in place: add, replace, rename, and delete without rebuilding everything. - Advanced filters (BCJ/ARM/Delta, PPMd) and per-entry details (CRC, method, compressed size). NEW WAYS TO CREATE - Split archives into volumes (.001, .002, …); Peek auto-rejoins them on open. - Read and edit ZIP archive comments. MORE FORMATS - Added reading for LZH/LHA, Unix compress (.Z), and uuencode (.uue/.uu). PRIVACY - Best-effort secure erase of sensitive temporary files. Plus many fixes, including non-ASCII names and passwords in 7z, and clearer password prompts.

This update brings major workflow improvements for working with compressed files and archives in Peek. • Batch operations: extract, convert, and verify multiple archives in one workflow, with per-item progress, cancellation support, and a final summary of completed and failed items. • Stronger protected archives: newly created password-protected ZIP archives now use AES-256 by default, with a legacy ZipCrypto option available when compatibility with older tools is needed. • Integrity reports: verification results can now be exported as SHA-256 checksum reports, making it easier to document, share, or compare archive contents. • Compression profiles: creation and conversion workflows now include practical compression profiles, so you can choose a better balance between speed and file size. • Additional improvements: refined archive workflows, better progress feedback, and general stability improvements across creation, conversion, verification, and extraction tasks.
