Type faster and cleaner: expand your text shortcuts, catch typos, and fix wrong-layout words, live and on-device, across every Mac app. Layouto is a quiet little menu-bar app that makes everything you type come out right. One helper handles three everyday typing wins. TEXT SHORTCUTS (EXPANSIONS) Type a short abbreviation, get the full text: "brb" becomes "be right back," "addr" fills in your full address, "sig" drops in your email signature. Build your own library of snippets (sign-offs, replies, boilerplate you send every day) with {{date}}, {{time}} and {{clipboard}} placeholders. Import and export the whole set. TYPO CORRECTION (OPTIONAL) Simple typos get fixed automatically using your Mac's own dictionary: mistype one letter in an otherwise real word and Layouto catches it, in dozens of languages. English, Russian, and Turkish also get a hand-picked list of classic misspellings on top: "definately" becomes "definitely," "teh" becomes "the." Careful and predictable: Layouto only ever corrects toward a real, common word, so it never mangles one you actually meant. WRONG-LAYOUT FIX Ever typed "ηελλο" when you meant "hello," or a jumble because the keyboard was still in another language? Layouto spots a word typed in the wrong keyboard layout and flips it to the right one, instantly, as you type. Pressed the wrong fix? Double-tap Shift to undo or cycle through your layouts. Works everywhere on your Mac: Messages, WhatsApp, Mail, Notes, Slack, your browser, and more. SMART APP EXCEPTIONS Coding in Terminal or VS Code? Layouto leaves your commands alone. Mark any app as a no-fix zone. PROTECTED WORDS iPhone, iCloud, macOS and any term you add keep their exact spelling and capitalization. 30+ LANGUAGES Arabic, Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Turkish, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Greek and Vietnamese correct automatically as you type. Dozens more, including Hebrew, Hindi, Armenian, Georgian, Bengali, Telugu, Gujarati and Punjabi, convert on demand with a double-tap of Shift, no setup required. Still missing yours? Drop a Hunspell dictionary into ~/Library/Spelling and Layouto turns on automatic correction for it too. ACCESSIBILITY Layouto is built to stay usable when you cannot watch the screen closely. • Spoken corrections. Every correction Layouto makes is announced to VoiceOver as it happens, so a change to your text is never silent. Keyboard-layout changes are announced too, so you always know which layout you are typing in. • Large layout indicator. An optional high-contrast overlay names the new layout on screen when it changes, instead of leaving you to read the small menu-bar glyph. It follows your Reduce Motion, Reduce Transparency and Increase Contrast settings. • Less typing. Automatic correction removes the delete-and-retype cycle, and text shortcuts expand a few characters into a full phrase, which matters when typing is physically costly. Double-tap Shift undoes any fix. • Every control in Settings is labeled for VoiceOver. How Layouto uses macOS Accessibility: Layouto uses the Accessibility API to observe your typing, which is what lets it detect a word typed in the wrong keyboard layout, correct it, and speak that correction to VoiceOver. That is the only thing the permission is used for, and it never reads the contents of other apps. No analytics, no tracking, no network connection of any kind.
