Velo Workspaces
Disposable VMs & AI Sandboxes
Only for Mac

Mac
Linux in about a minute from official cloud images, hands-free Ubuntu, Fedora and Rocky installs, a built-in SSH terminal, and a near-native sandbox for AI agents.
Velo Workspaces is not a toy for clicking "New VM" and hoping for the best. It's a native macOS utility, built on Apple's Virtualization framework, for engineers who need real, reproducible, disposable computing environments on Apple Silicon — designed around how software engineers, QA engineers, DevOps professionals, and AI researchers actually work.
LINUX IN ABOUT A MINUTE
Pick a cloud image — Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, or Rocky Linux — set a username, password, and SSH keys, and the workspace sets itself up on first boot: no installer, no questions. Prefer the full installer? Ubuntu (Server and Desktop), Fedora (Server and Everything), and Rocky Linux install themselves from their ISOs, in your Mac's language, keyboard layout, and time zone.
ONE LIBRARY FOR EVERY IMAGE
Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Rocky Linux, Kali Linux, NixOS, Alpine, and macOS, downloaded straight from each project's own servers and verified against its published checksum where it has one. Pause and resume downloads, reuse images, and bring in files you already have, including QCOW2 disks.
FOUR JOBS, FOUR PROFILES
Code & Build for software engineers, DevOps Lab for infrastructure and pipelines, AI Sandbox for local model work, and Office & Study for everything else — or configure your own.
A TERMINAL THAT'S ALREADY SIGNED IN (PRO)
Open Terminal signs in with a key this Mac keeps in its keychain and checks the workspace's host key. Tabs, adjustable text size, and color schemes such as One Dark and One Light. Connection details and a copyable ssh command stay free, for Terminal, VS Code, or another computer on your network.
AI BRIDGE (PRO): LOCAL MODEL INFERENCE, NO CLOUD IN THE LOOP
Run inference on your Mac's own GPU and reach it from inside a workspace as a standard chat-completions endpoint. Build and test agents, tool-calling, and RAG pipelines against a model that never leaves the machine. No API keys, no usage costs.
DISPOSABLE WORKSPACES (PRO): THE WAY QA IS SUPPOSED TO WORK
Spin up a clean environment for one test run and let it clean up after itself when you close it. Seal a configured workspace into a base image once, then clone disposable workspaces from it in seconds with copy-on-write, so every test starts from the same known-good state.
INTEGRATIONS THAT RESPECT YOUR TOOLCHAIN
• Shared folders, mounted automatically for macOS guests
• A VS Code Remote-SSH config generator
• A serial console for a Linux guest that never brings up a display
• Clipboard sharing, extra disks and ISOs, and Rosetta 2 (Pro) for x86_64 Linux binaries at near-native speed
• Pause or hibernate a workspace and pick up where you left off
FREE, AND VELO WORKSPACES PRO
Velo Workspaces is free to download. Creating and running unlimited Linux and macOS workspaces is free, including cloud images, automatic installs, and the Image Library, as are the console, shared folders, SSH access details, the VS Code helper, diagnostics export, restoring existing restore points, and creating a workspace from a base image you already have.
Pro adds the built-in SSH terminal, AI Bridge, creating restore points, creating disposable workspaces, saving base images, and Rosetta — monthly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase, with a one-week free trial on the subscriptions. Pro gates making new things; it never takes away what you already made. Anyone who bought Velo Workspaces before it went free keeps every Pro feature permanently, at no cost.
PRIVATE AND LOCAL BY DEFAULT
No account, no analytics, no crash reporting: Velo Workspaces collects nothing. The guest OS, your files, your keys, and your models stay on your Mac, and the only downloads are the images you choose.
Testing a deploy script on a clean Ubuntu Server, debugging an agent against a local model, or running one test suite a hundred times a day: Velo Workspaces treats each as a first-class workflow.

Ratings & Reviews

Velo Workspaces 1.2 gets you from nothing to a working Linux shell faster.
• Cloud images: Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, and Rocky Linux workspaces set themselves up on first boot with your account, password, SSH keys, and disk size. No installer, usually ready in about a minute.
• Automatic installs: Ubuntu (Server and Desktop), Fedora (Server and Everything), and Rocky Linux installers boot straight in, answer every question using your Mac's language, keyboard layout, and time zone, and restart into the installed system when they're done.
• Image Library: official images in one place, in Settings and the sidebar. Downloaded from each project's own servers and verified against its published checksum where it has one. Pause, resume, reuse, or import your own.
• New Workspace, redesigned in four steps: Source, Image, Configure, Review.
• Built-in SSH terminal (Pro): Open Terminal (Control-Command-T) signs in with this Mac's key and checks the workspace's host key. Tabs, text size, and color schemes, with One Dark and One Light by default.
• SSH keys in Settings › Access: generate, import, export, rename, and choose the default.
• The Developer Tools tab is now called Access. Set the account of a workspace you installed yourself, check SSH on demand, and copy an ssh -J command to reach a workspace from another computer through this Mac.
• QCOW2 disks can be used with Boot from a Virtual Disk.
• Linux workspaces now default to Large Text display scaling.
• The first time Velo Workspaces checks a workspace's SSH, macOS may ask to allow Local Network access. That's how macOS treats this Mac's virtual network; the connection never leaves your Mac.
• Many smaller fixes and refinements.
