Ara is VJ software for macOS. Plug in your audio, point a camera at the room, and it draws the visuals live while you play. Free for seven days. Ara is VJ software for macOS. It makes the visuals you put on the projector at a club night, a gig or an installation, and it makes them live, while the music is playing. Most VJ tools are built around a library of clips you cut beforehand. Ara draws its looks on the spot instead, from the sound coming in and from the camera pointed at the room, so what the audience sees can only have happened tonight. When you do want your own footage, drop a video in as a layer and blend it with everything else. You run it from a control panel on your laptop and send the output to a projector, a second screen or an LED wall. IT LISTENS TO THE MUSIC Plug in your audio and Ara follows it. Bass, mids, highs and the tempo, tracked as they move, so a kick lands on the frame it happened on rather than a moment later. IT SEES THE ROOM Point a camera at the floor and Ara finds the people in it and works out how far away they are. A dancer can carry the light with them, part a field of particles, or leave a trail that fades behind them. Nothing to wear, nothing to set up. OVER SIXTY LOOKS TO PLAY WITH Over sixty effects, from slow atmospheric washes to hard geometric work. Stack them, blend them, and move the whole stack with three faders. Build your looks before the show, load one on each deck, and crossfade between them on your own timing. BRING YOUR OWN FOOTAGE Video sits in the stack like any other layer. Set the speed, loop it, grade it, push it to duotone against your palette, and blend it under or over anything Ara is drawing. YOUR CONTROLLER ALREADY WORKS Touch a knob to map it. Ara speaks MIDI and OSC, so the controller on your table needs no configuration files. If a scene gets heavy it quietly drops resolution and scales back up, rather than stuttering in front of a room. DEPTH, IF YOU WANT IT An iPhone Pro can act as a depth camera over Wi-Fi using the free AraRemote app. A Kinect v2 works too, through KinectBridge, a free download, and sees in a room with no light in it at all. Ara is complete without either. SEVEN DAYS, THEN YOURS Ara is free to download and runs in full for seven days. Every effect, no watermark, nothing held back. After that your presets and settings stay exactly where they are, and one purchase turns the output back on for good. One payment, no subscription. NOT IN THIS VERSION No Syphon input or output. No AI shader generation. WHAT YOU NEED macOS 26 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac, M1 or newer. There is no Intel build.
