AssetScout finds files by the date you remember, not the folder you forgot. Scan a folder and see everything organized by month.

A photo, a screen recording or a scanned document gets saved once, and later you cannot find it because nobody remembers the folder. AssetScout solves this by looking at every file's date, not its location.
Point AssetScout at a folder, drop folders onto the window, or pick one of the built-in locations — including Mail attachments, Messages attachments, and system wallpapers. AssetScout reads every image, video, audio file and document it finds, and lays them out as a grid of thumbnails, grouped by the month they were created.
WHAT IT'S GOOD FOR
• Finding photos that are not in the Photos app — in Downloads, old backups, project folders or external disks.
• Reading files off attachments, like Mail and Messages, that are hard to reach in the Finder.
• Sorting a mixed folder by date. Photos and videos are grouped by their own capture date, read from the file's metadata, not from when it was copied.
• Looking inside a file. The inspector shows camera settings, the location on a map, audio track data, video format details, and document metadata.
• Cleaning up. Preview with Quick Look, reveal in the Finder, rotate, flip, or move to the Trash — without leaving the window.
HOW IT WORKS
The scan runs in two steps: first it walks the folder to count what is there, so the progress bar is accurate from the start; then it reads each file's date. Results appear as they are found, and the scan can be stopped at any time. AssetScout never enters other apps' sandboxed data, and inside a photo library it reads only the originals, skipping previews and caches.
AssetScout recognizes every file type macOS knows — several hundred of them — and you can turn off the types you do not want to see, by category, in the settings.
