Your movies and shows become channels that run on a schedule, so turning to one drops you into whatever's airing, just like cable. Browse a real program guide, flip channels with the remote, and let the shows come to you.

CHANNELS FROM YOUR LIBRARY Cable Box sets up starter channels from what you already have: Comedy, Cartoons, Sci-Fi, Drama, and more. Make your own in Channel Builder from genres, studios, ratings, collections, and keywords. Reorder and renumber your lineup, hide channels, and add filler and ad breaks between shows.
CHANNEL SURFING Swipe up and down to change channels, or swipe down for the Mini Guide without leaving full screen. While the next channel comes in, an old TV's picture rolls or tears through the static, or cuts to black. Retro mode makes the remote work like a cable box: up and down change channels, and Back brings up the controls.
ON DEMAND Search your library and play any movie or episode from the beginning.
EVERY TV IN THE HOUSE Your channels and settings sync through iCloud to every Apple TV on your Apple Account, and every TV agrees on what's airing.
PRIVATE No accounts, analytics, or tracking. Video streams straight from your Plex server to your Apple TV.
SUPPORT CABLE BOX Cable Box is free. Leave a tip, or become a Supporter for every color theme and app icon on all your Apple TVs. The Supporter subscription renews automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage it in your Apple TV's Settings.

Ratings & Reviews

- Audio: every audio track (languages, commentary) is in the player’s Audio menu, in the Guide and On Demand. Your pick also becomes that video’s track in other Plex apps.
- Subtitles: the player’s own Subtitles button now has On, Off and every language.
- Stats: also in On Demand (swipe down).
- Channel Builder:
- A Year rule: before a year, after one, or a range.
- Seasonal channels: Months put a channel on only in those months, like a Christmas channel in December.
- 4K HEVC: videos Plex repackages, including HDR10, now stay in full 4K HEVC instead of being converted to 1080p.
- Movies with several versions in Plex play the best one for your Apple TV.
- Fixes:
- Back leaves full screen in two presses at most.
- Coming back after five minutes away starts fresh on the Guide, with no black screen.
- Two quick presses in the Guide can’t select a channel scrolled out of sight.
- 7.1 Dolby Digital Plus plays correctly.
- Dolby Vision profile 5 MKV files, which Plex can’t stream with a picture, are left out of channels, and On Demand explains why.
