Description

Let your computer do the work while you watch the eclipse

This program will allow a compatible Canon camera to capture the events of the eclipse with the proper exposures and timing. The user is required to provide the coordinates AND IS REQUIRED TO PROVIDE CORRECT TIME. The program then takes over scripting what photo is required when. It also assists in focusing. It will operate with either a telescope or a lens.

This App is rated 17+ since an adult should be operating the camera during an eclipse. Adults should review the important safety information on the support URL before pointing a camera at the sun.

Splendid performance for the 2024 Total Eclipse!

I used this app to automate my captures for the 2024 Total Eclipse in Texas, and was VERY pleased with the results!

The original script it generated was perhaps a little two optimistic about my camera's performance, as in testing tended to run a little long, but after switching off the setting to capture earthshine and reducing the number of attempted chromosphere and prominance captures, it worked great.

For the partial phases, I also noticed that the shutter speed was much too fast for the Thousand Oaks filter I was using. After switching the the generic ND 5 setting, it worked great. But that's why you should always do extensive trial runs before hand.

During totality, we had intermittent clouds, but still managed to capture the corona perfectly, and the longest 1-second shot was enough to capture earthshine anyway.

Hopeful that I'll get to use this app again in a few years in Spain!

I never write product reviews, but ...

I spent months trying all kinds of way to capture lots of exposures during last Thursday's total solar eclipse off the coast of Australia.

I found CaptureEclipse a few weeks ago, and used it last week with excellent results.

Highly recommended.

Tal Giv ,

Great app. And highly appreciated. One question

I'm grateful that you have created and brought this to the public for use. Sincerely appreciated. It will be automating my main camera during the upcoming eclipse.

One thing I cannot seem to get going - I would like to timelapse the partial phases as well, and it doesn't allow below 5% in the script. Any reason why I cannot set it to 1% for example?

Camera: Canon R7.

Thanks!
