CCTrans
Cmd+C+C. Translated.
Only for Mac
Free
Mac
Cmd+C+C on any text and read it in your language. Translation happens on your Mac, so nothing you copy ever leaves it.
Press Cmd+C twice in any app and a small toast pops up with the translation, right where you're working. You never have to switch apps or paste anything into a box.
CCTrans lives in your menu bar and stays out of the way until you need it.
HOW IT WORKS
• Cmd+C+C on any text and the translation toast appears
• Press Shift+Cmd+2 to capture the screen and translate whatever text is on it
• The menu bar icon holds the rest: languages, toast position, request logs
PRIVATE BY DEFAULT
The default translator is Apple's on-device engine, so the text you copy never leaves your Mac. CCTrans ships without analytics or accounts — by default there is nothing to collect and nowhere to send it.
OPTIONAL CLOUD TRANSLATION
For LLM-quality translations you can switch from on-device to a cloud provider. Cloud translation is always opt-in — the default stays on-device.
• CCTrans Cloud — a managed service run by the developer, with no API key to set up. The text you translate (and, when you use screenshot translation, a downscaled screenshot) is sent to the developer's server at kargn.as solely to produce the translation. It is not stored, logged, or used for training.
• OpenRouter — bring your own API key. The same text (and optional screenshot) is sent to OpenRouter to translate; your key stays on your Mac. OpenRouter's privacy policy covers that processing.
Attaching a screen capture as context makes a real difference for short snippets that could mean three different things on their own.
MADE FOR REAL WORK
• Works in every app: browsers, editors, chat, PDFs
• The toast shows up where you put it and goes away on its own
• Language pairs download once, then translation works offline (Apple Translation)
• A plain menu bar app with no Dock icon to get in your way
PERMISSIONS
• No permission is needed to detect Cmd+C — CCTrans notices the same text being copied twice through the clipboard.
• Screen Recording (optional) is used for screenshot translation and the screen-context capture, nothing else.
CCTrans is free and open source.
- This app hasn’t received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview.
• Added a new three-step onboarding flow for choosing a model, granting permissions, and trying your first translation.
• Onboarding progress is now saved, so CCTrans resumes at the correct step after Quit & Reopen.
• Sign in to CCTrans Cloud from your browser to translate without bringing your own API key.
• Turn any screenshot translation into an edited image with “Translate as Image.”
• Fixed a rare hang when starting a cloud translation, and image results now report a load failure instead of showing an empty result.
