World Class Editor

I've been using DaVinci Resolve for over ten years, on both Mac and PC. It is one of the most powerful non-linear editors I've used. I started on Premiere Pro and I feel Resolve is every bit as powerful. The coloration tools are spectacular and sound management is excellent. This app does have a steep learning curve, but once mastered it is a powerhouse. One limitation is that there are a few CODECs that Resolve will not handle. I do also use Final Cut Pro and I work between these two programs like a tag team. And how can you argue with FREE?!?

This app is great, don't get me wrong. But here me out

While davinci resolve is an amazing editor, and you can do almost anything with it, but for the avrage vlogger or editor it will end up making it take 3 times as long as it needs to and chances are it wont come out good... basic things like transitions are time consumming to execute... that is why i think that unless you're a very skilled editor and possibly even animator who can and is willing to spend an hour making some 3d text, i think youd be better off using another editor. so far capcut desktop is definetly the best simple but intuitive editor that allows you to do 80% of what you can do with davinci. it can't do cgi but it can do insane text, fancy transitions, ai stuff, and much much more. capcut can become difficult at times butin genral i like it,im not discreting davinci btw but it always annoys me.

App Store version missing features

The version in the App Store is missing features.

I am a Final Cut Pro user (personal use), and I have heard a lot of things about Da Vinci Resolve and how much better it is.

So I decided to download it to try it out. I downloaded it from the App Store, and tried to import a video file which was shot on my iPhone 15 Pro Max in ProRes Log.

Da Vinci Resolve did NOT RECOGNISE the file format. I almost decided to abort looking at it since it did was missing a critical part of my workflow, even though it was suppose to be able to read and work with the ProRes Log files.

I happened to read somewhere that the App Store version was different than the download version.

So I deleted the App Store version and downloaded from the BlackMagic website. Same version. I installed it and then I was able to import the Apple ProRes Log file. and work with it.

BlackMagic is doing themselves a disservice by not providing the same version in the App Store as the download version.

I am not saying that I am switching to Resolve, but I almost quit looking at it because the App Store version failed to read a file format that I prefer
