Copies your folders exactly as they are — to an external drive, NAS or SFTP. Resumes after a reboot, never re-copies what hasn't changed. No app needed to read it back.
DirectSyncBackup copies your folders exactly as they are — not into an archive, not into a proprietary format. What you get is a mirror folder, readable directly in the Finder, no app, no licence, no restore procedure needed.
WHY THIS IS NOT ANOTHER TIME MACHINE
Backup tools hand you an archive. The day you need one file, you need the app, the right version, and time. DirectSyncBackup does the opposite: a mirror copy, folder for folder, file for file. You open it in the Finder. Nothing else.
WHAT IT DOES WELL
Large volumes. Built for hundreds of gigabytes and tens of thousands of files — not a folder of documents. Persistent transfer queue, chunked copying, automatic throughput control so it never saturates the disk or the network.
Picking up where it stopped. Quit the app, restart the Mac, unplug the drive: at the next launch the transfer resumes exactly where it was. A half-written file is never mistaken for a finished one.
Not redoing work already done. A later sync transfers only what changed. 120 GB already copied are verified in minutes, not seven hours.
Local, network or SFTP. External drive, NAS, SMB or AFP volume, or your own SFTP server. Your files go from your Mac to your destination, with nothing in between.
Discreet. It lives in the menu bar. Daily or weekly scheduling, at the time you choose, or run it manually.
SAFETY, TAKEN SERIOUSLY
A tool that copies can also erase. DirectSyncBackup takes that seriously:
— Mirror mode, which deletes at the destination whatever has disappeared from the source, is off by default and requires an explicit confirmation naming the folder concerned.
— It refuses to delete if indexing the source finds nothing, or if the deletions would exceed a quarter of the destination — and tells you so in the History.
— It refuses a destination located inside the source, or the reverse.
— Before the first sync to a folder that already contains something, it shows you what will be copied, kept and deleted — before doing it.
WHAT IT IS NOT
No previous versions. No restore procedure. No archive encryption. If you are looking for a Time Machine, this is not it — and that is deliberate: the copy is directly readable, so there is nothing to restore.
FREE TO START
