DiskPeek
Reclaim wasted space

Mac
Your Mac says the disk is full, then is completely unhelpful about why. "Other: 214 GB" is not an answer.
DiskPeek is what I wanted to exist instead. It does one thing, tell you what is actually eating your disk, and it gets out of your way afterwards.
IT SHOWS YOU THINGS IMMEDIATELY
The scan streams results as it finds them. You can start drilling into your home folder a second after hitting scan, while the rest of the volume is still being counted, and the
numbers keep climbing underneath you as more comes in.
Getting there meant being strict about a few things. No filesystem work on the main thread, ever. A fixed pool of workers rather than one per directory. Reading metadata in bulk
instead of one call per file. On my MacBook Pro it walks about six million files in a couple of minutes and the window stays responsive the whole time.
BUY IT ONCE AND IT'S YOURS
No subscription. No trial that expires into one. No paywall that appears the moment the scan finds something big. No ads, no account to create, no upsell banner eating half the
window. You pay once, you own it, and the app spends all of its attention on your disk instead of on selling you the next tier.
CLEANING UP DOESN'T MEAN STARTING OVER
When you delete something it disappears from the results right away and every folder above it corrects its total, with no rescan. If you have been moving things around outside
the app, you can recheck a single folder instead of the whole drive.
Move to Trash is the only delete. There is no permanent delete anywhere in the app, and it checks an item is still the one it scanned before touching it.
YOU NEVER HAVE TO TOUCH THE MOUSE
Arrow keys move around the columns the way they do in Finder. Up and down walk the current folder, right steps into what is selected, left goes back out. Start typing and it
jumps to the matching file.
Your volumes get numbers too, in the order they appear in the sidebar. ⌘1 scans the first one, ⌘2 the second, and so on up to ⌘9.
BROWSING THAT WORKS THE WAY FINDER DOES
Columns, so you can go as deep as you like and still see the path you took, with a breadcrumb along the bottom that scrolls to keep up. There is a regular outline view too if you
would rather have a tree.
Sizes are colour ranked so the heavy folders stand out without you reading every number. You can turn that off if it is too much.
IT TRIES TO BE HONEST WITH YOU
DiskPeek shows the space actually allocated on disk first, not the apparent file size, because that is the number that matters when you are trying to free something up.
It also will not pretend that deleting 4 GB always gives you back 4 GB. On APFS, clones, snapshots and shared blocks mean it often does not, and the app says so rather than
quietly overpromising.
IT ONLY SEES WHAT YOU HAND IT
DiskPeek runs in Apple's App Sandbox, so the folders it can reach are the ones you grant it and macOS is what enforces that.
It reads names, sizes and dates. It never opens a single file's contents, never follows symlinks out of the folder you pointed it at, and never wanders onto another volume
without being asked.
