Move over, Dropzone!

There are many “shelf” apps on macOS. For years, I have used Dropzone, which works very well. I developed many workflows to integrate it into Finder, Alfred, QuickActions/Services, etc. It was always a bit hacky, involving some scripting. But two things helped a bunch: (1) The addition of a Dropzone target in Shortcuts; and (2) the addition of a Dropzone command line utility.Well, I just discovered Dropover. The difference in quality between the two apps is immense. Dropover is clearly a “new” app. It includes every possible bit of Apple features as possible — e.g., very good Shortcuts support, it appears in right-click context menus, share sheets, etc. Whenever I was doing something and tempted to move it to my Dropzone Drop Bar via my own scripts, I tested out how I would move it to a Dropover shelf, and sure enough, the developer already found a way to make that simpler. Not to mention that the shelves themselves really look terrific and function amazingly well. The developer really deserves credit for making such a feature-complete and polished app.In fairness, I will say that Dropzone’s Drop Bar (shelf functionality) is only one of its features, so it isn’t a perfect 1:1 comparison. But as far as shelf functionality goes, Dropover is truly excellent. I recommend it to everyone. It will be an app that makes you wonder how you ever survived before without it.

this is such a well thought out app, with so many time-saving applications. In addition to gathering multiple files to move/copy within the finder, I use it to quickly upload my screenshots and tutorial videos that I make for my team using Snagit. I set Dropover as a sharing location and it pops the files right in to a shelf where I can choose the sharing location. Dropover's native sharing site works great and is so quick and simple. I am always thrilled to find an app that saves time and is well thought out, like this one. I'm still finding new ways to use it, but bought it within a few minutes of trying it since it solved a couple of basic time-consuming issues right away.

Makes Moving Files Around So Much Easier

Relocating files to better organize my own images, graphics, logos, fonts, art, contracts and documents is so much easier, now. I don't understand why Apple failed to use a Cut to move files, it's always such a chore having to have that second window open for drag & drop, which takes completely away from the convenience of drag & drop. With this little, just grab the file/files you want to move, shake them a bit, drop them in the presented window, navigate to their destination with the same finder window (I often just have to back-up or drill down 1 directory), move it/them from the holding window to the target window and voila! All done.

Early versions of Mac OS X did a much better job allowing you to drag content to places not currently in view. It was once possible to drag any object to any place in the file system by dragging down to the finder, then holding over folders until they would open, even for multiple levels, until you found the right spot. In recent years, this has become all but impossible. Not only does this app solve this problem, it completely eliminates the need to use the desktop as a temporary holding spot. Once you have tried it, you will wonder how you ever worked without it!

It was once possible to drag any object to any place in the file system by dragging down to the finder, then holding over folders until they would open, even for multiple levels, until you found the right spot. In recent years, this has become all but impossible. Not only does this app solve this problem, it completely eliminates the need to use the desktop as a temporary holding spot. Once you have tried it, you will wonder how you ever worked without it!

* Adds a new way to keep the shelf open when you drag items out. Hold the Shift key while dragging to force the shelf to stay open. A Keep Open indicator appears while you drag. * Fixes an issue that could cause the menu bar app to quit unexpectedly when creating Recent Shelves. * Addresses an issue where, in rare cases, a failed drop to an external disk could move the original file to the Trash. * Improves reliability when dragging items out so the shelf doesn’t close unexpectedly. * Makes minor updates to Advanced shelf settings.
