Talking about a time saver!

This application is brilliant and an incredible time saver. If you really want to know the files, folders and related data your hard disk contains, with very few exceptions, this is all you need.It literally runs through thousands of files in no time and presents you with a list of the name, amount, size, kind and a bunch of other information you may want to dig up and then allows you to save the results in several standard formats. This ought to be a feature of the OS. I haven’t seen any problems running this application and the price is dirt cheap for what it can do. Hope it stays around for ever. Kudos to the developer!

I scanned a folder with several thousand files. It took a good 40 minutes. At the end I realized everything was very small and difficult to read, so I decided to make the window larger. Only, on the bottom right corner, right where you’d usually click to make a window larger, is a small button called “Clear Results”. And I clicked it. And everything was absolutely GONE. So I started the process all over again…😡 And surprisingly, no possibility to undo either! 😡 This is a really, really, really bad place to put a button. Another thing that made the spreadsheet very difficult to understand is that everything went into the first “File Name” column. There was no indentation to help understand what was inside which folder, and that is also very problematic when looking at a list of files.All in all, I wish I could have tried this app for 5 minutes before having to buy it. I wish I could get a refund.

Powerful File Metadata Capture

Surprisingly powerful tool. It takes a few seconds to pull all of the file metadata including filenames, paths, thumbnails and technical metadata from a batch of files into a single data file.. I’m using this to get control over and manage thousands of image and video files. The data file can then be viewed as a spreadsheet, or ingested into a DAM system, a search tool, a multimodal LLM or even a custom application.

It’s fine for simple use but there are features there that have no apparent use and there are other features that seem to be missing. For example: what are the check boxes for? Checking rows doesn’t seem to do anything or be related to any function in particular. It sure doesn’t affect what gets exported. It leads one to believe there’s a way to remove files from the list without affecting the files themselves but that it not the case. I thought I was just clearing files from the list but I was actually deleting the files themselves which is very much not a good thing.
