FITSit looks after your folders of astronomical FITS images. Blink through a night's frames, measure and cull the bad ones, rename files from their headers and edit the headers, all in one Mac app. BLINK IMAGES • Step or play through a folder's images in place, to spot clouds, satellite trails, asteroids and drift • Images are prepared in the background so stepping is instant, even for very large folders • Zoom and position are kept from frame to frame, so you can watch one spot change • Tick the frames you don't want and move them to another folder or to the Trash INSPECT IMAGES • Measures every image in a folder: minimum, maximum, median, noise (MAD), star count, overexposed stars, HFD, FWHM and eccentricity • Sort by any column to find frames that are out of focus, trailed, cloudy or saturated • Tick by Range sets acceptable ranges with sliders and ticks everything that falls short • Raw color (Bayer) frames are measured on their green pixels RENAME FILES • Build names from a template of header values, such as {OBJECT}, {FILTER} and {DATE-OBS:YYYYMMDD}, with counters and number formatting • See the new name of every file before anything is renamed; conflicts and missing values are flagged, and existing files are never overwritten • Save your templates for next time EDIT HEADERS • Read, search, add, edit, delete and reorder the keywords of a FITS header • Select many files to edit them together, for example to correct an OBJECT or FILTER name across a whole night • Changes are collected first and written only when you click Save, with full Undo and Redo VIEW YOUR IMAGES • An automatic screen stretch reveals faint detail in dark sky images without touching the file • Raw color frames from one-shot-color cameras are shown in color • Smooth zoom from 1% to 1000% with mouse wheel, trackpad or keyboard Works with .fits, .fit and .fts files of any bit depth. Your files are changed only when you tell FITSit to.
