Pick a disk or folder and get a ring chart of everything in it, sized by the space it takes. Click a ring to step inside, and trash what you no longer need. FreedomDisk shows you where the space on a disk went. Pick a disk or a folder. FreedomDisk measures everything inside it and draws a ring chart: the centre is the folder you are looking at, each ring outward is one level deeper, and the wider an arc, the more space that folder or file takes. The biggest things are the ones you see first. HOW YOU USE IT • Choose a disk or folder, or drop a folder on the window. • Point at an arc or a list row to see its name, its size and its share of the total. • Click a folder to step into it. Click the centre, press Command-Up Arrow, or use the path bar to step back out. • Right-click anything to show it in Finder, copy its path, or move it to the Trash. • Choose how many folder levels to show at once, from 3 to 8 rings. • The chart fills in while the scan is still running, so you do not have to wait for the end. WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN • Sizes are the space actually taken on disk, in the same decimal units Finder uses. • Files stored once but listed twice (hard links and APFS copies that share data) are counted once. • Small files are grouped into one "small files" entry per folder so the chart stays readable. • Folders that exist only in iCloud are not opened, so scanning never downloads anything. • When you scan a whole disk, the sidebar shows how much used space the scan could not see, such as local snapshots. PERMISSION, PLAINLY • FreedomDisk can reach only the disks and folders you choose. macOS asks you to confirm each one the first time; after that FreedomDisk remembers it, and you can make it forget any folder from the start screen. • Scanning only reads file sizes. The one change FreedomDisk can make is Move to Trash, and only when you choose it from the right-click menu and confirm. Nothing is erased until you empty the Trash yourself. • Some folders are protected by macOS (Mail, Photos, data belonging to other apps). FreedomDisk counts them, lists them as "not permitted", and leaves them out of the totals instead of guessing. If you want them measured too, the list has a button that opens the Full Disk Access setting. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account, no sign-in, no ads. • No network connections of any kind. File names and sizes stay on your Mac. Requires macOS 14 or later. Runs natively on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
