Gentler Streak is a personal exercise and fitness tracker offering a fresh, more compassionate approach. Making rest days part of a streak challenges the unrealistic mainstream mindset of always pushing harder — and it changes streaks as we know them.

The accompanying Apple Watch activity tracker has all the qualities of an excellent tracker while also being a unique tool to control fitness on the go! Gentler Streak responds to your fitness level and proposes optimal activity levels through a personalized Activity Path. * Daily Fitness Recap: a before and after-workout recap helps fully comprehend your Path's effect. Your fitness data digested and explained in a simple and actionable manner.

* Activity Hub: all of your logged workouts in one place
* Progress Charts: your progress on a weekly, monthly, yearly, and all-time basis

Best App for a Healthy Relationship with Exercise

I practice intuitive eating and HAES, which means that I explicitly focus on how movement helps my body rather than on calorie burn etc. This is great, but it also means I gave up my usual super motivating factors to exercise, such as closing my Apple Watch rings. For about a year, I struggled to find a new way to motivate myself that felt in alignment with my values.

Enter gentler streak! This app has been a game changer in helping to motivate me while still listening to what my body needs. It’s really helpful to see fitness mapped out on a line and get a visual reminder that rest, and not overworking yourself, are important! I also really appreciate the recent updates with the suggested workouts (takes the thought of it which my neurodivergent brain loves!) and the option to remove the food equivalents for calorie burn.

My only suggestions would be to have an option to remove calorie counts completely and to “hide” certain articles as they can be somewhat triggering and counterintuitive to someone trying to develop a healthier relationship with their body and movement. All and all though this app is really wonderful with no comparison on the market. I’m excited to see where else the app goes.

Gabrielle, hello! First, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on 🧡. Super glad it manages to motivate you and makes it simpler to decide on the workout of the day. Second, sorry to hear about some articles/calories being triggering. Atm, we have our hands full with some great upgrades (that will all contribute to an even more in-tune-with-yourself experience), but if your issue keeps popping up, we will return to this and try to find a way that would work for all (without compromising the whole experience). 🙏

I don’t feel so guilty if I don’t over-achieve

I routinely use Gentler on my watch instead of Apple Fitness. For me, it’s easier and quicker to get this one started and to tell it pause and then stop. I arranged the activities so that the one I use most is at the top of the list, which is very handy.

The other thing is that this app has a much more realistic idea of how often and how much I can go-go-go, and is nice enough to point out that Zone 2 is fat-busting, when I was being hard on myself about not working harder. Very encouraging!

There’s no pressure to do more than I have time or stamina or strength to do. At first, Gentler was very concerned that I needed to slow down. (I actually needed to change my goal.)

There have been weeks when I haven’t gotten very many workout sessions in, and I get a gentle reminder that I needed to be consistent. No guilt trip, though.

The only problem I have is that I keep forgetting to end my session, and two hours later I look down and see that it’s still going. And sometimes my watch needs charging but I still workout and the app doesn’t know it. Would be great if there was a way to take out or edit a workout that appears much longer than it should be, or add one when I didn’t wear my watch.

I didn’t think I would like this so much, but it’s a good motivator for someone like me who is trying to workout to improve physical and mental health, but is not an athlete, and has other things to get done too.

Thank you so much for taking the time and sharing your opinion on this little baby of ours. 🧡 So so happy it is working this well for you! 💪

About editing a workout: this is on our radar, and we will look into it once we are done with bigger upgrades in the works.

Sometime in the future, we will also make it possible for you to enter a workout by hand and determine the effort: in case you forget to track, your watch dies, or the tracking was, for some reason, off.

Thanks again for giving GS a go, and for spreading love. :)

Minor improvements needed.

First off, I’m writing this on my iPad cause it’s lots easier than hunt-peck on the iPhone. I’m surprised to find the app on the iPad, nonetheless, opening it I discovered I’d have to go thru the same initial setup routine I did on the iPhone. Yet, without doing it, the app informed me I’d already subscribed. So why wasn’t all my data there as well?
The app itself is far superior to Apple’s own. Unlike theirs, this one is more realistic. For example, taking time off, including daily chores in one’s workout routines. I’m still unsure subscribing is necessary, nonetheless, I’m going thru with it because I believe in supporting those who have gone to the trouble to put such a fine app together.
I also commend the developers for tying in Apples exercise data. It takes awhile to download it into the app, but there it all is.
Improvements such as enlarging the timer on each exercise routine. For some reason, heart rate is the app’s #1 priority while exercising. Its there in BIG numbers while the timer is stuck in the top left corner in tiny figures. Swimming & not being able to clearly see the elapsed time makes things difficult.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a better exercise app than Apples.

Developer Response ,

Heeey! Thank you for your support and a lovely recommendation. :) Glad you like our concept! And now for the questions.

Gentler Streak is an iOS and WatchOS app that writes and reads data to/from Apple Health. Unfortunately, there is no Apple Health on the iPad, leaving you with an empty Gentler Streak app. You would experience this with all apps that work with Apple Health. If Apple decides to make the Health app part of iPadOS, you will also be able to use GS there.

You have observed well that our focus is mostly on your heart. :) Your heart tells of your overall body condition, and paying attention to it helps you improve healthily, rest when needed, not push hard when something is happening, etc. It is your best guide.

As for exercise minutes. When you don't track a workout, we get very scarce feedback on your heart rate; therefore, we cannot estimate the toll it took on your body. We take exercise minutes, but since heart rate data is not dense, we can't tell the real strain they had on your body, so the impact on your Activity Path is not as accurate as when you are tracking a workout. The Apple Watch reads your heart rate continuously every couple of seconds when tracking a workout, giving us great data to work with. When you are not tracking, your watch reads your heart rate every 2 to 5 minutes, getting up to 20 readings per minute at best. We have added over 90 workout types to our tracker, allowing you to track the workout of your choice and with that keep your Activity Path accurate.

Regarding visibility of the timer. You'll be happy to hear there is a workaround. Once you start a workout on your watch, you can change the bottom two metrics. Tap on one, hold, and then choose "timer". This way, the elapsed time will become more visible.

Hope this was somewhat helpful! If you have more questions, please reach out to and we'll jump in. 👋
