NepTunes keeps your music within reach while you work. Whatever you play in Apple Music or Spotify shows up in your menu bar and on your desktop, and lands in your Last.fm profile. It has been doing this on the Mac for over ten years.
YOUR LISTENING ON LAST.FM
NepTunes scrobbles everything you play in Apple Music and Spotify, live radio included. If you listen offline, it keeps the songs and sends them once you're back online. You decide how much of a song you need to hear before it counts. Your scrobble count and recent plays are a click away, and you can love a song on Last.fm or look up similar artists without opening a browser.
MUSIC CONTROLS WITHOUT SWITCHING APPS
Click the NepTunes icon in the menu bar and the player opens over whatever you're doing, with the album cover, volume, shuffle and repeat, and the songs you played before this one. If both Apple Music and Spotify are open, you pick which one to control.
Or skip the click. Set keyboard shortcuts for play, pause, skip, volume and mute that work in every app, and a small confirmation on screen tells you it worked.
THE SONG ON YOUR DESKTOP
The free Now Playing widget puts the cover, the title and play buttons on your desktop, in three sizes.
NEPTUNES PRO
A yearly subscription for when you want more of your music on screen.
Desktop widgets. Vinyl turns the album cover into a spinning record, CD Case shows the album in a jewel case that opens when you pause, and V3 brings back the classic NepTunes cover. There are twelve player widgets, from a thin strip along the edge of the screen to a full player with volume and ratings. Five more show how you listen: your Last.fm charts, a live feed of your scrobbles, the hours of the day you listen most, your top genres, and seven weeks of listening at a glance. Keep them behind your windows or on top, only while music plays or all day. New ones install with one click from the gallery at neptunesmac.app, and if you know HTML and JavaScript, you can make your own.
The song in your menu bar. The artist and title of what's playing stay in the menu bar next to play and skip buttons, so you always know what's on. If the name is too long to fit, it scrolls.
The cover in your Dock. The Dock icon turns into the cover of the current song. Click it to open your player.
Animated covers. Albums with moving artwork in Apple Music move in NepTunes too.
Love, dislike and rate as you listen. A shortcut, the menu bar or a widget sets the heart or the stars in Apple Music, and a love can go to Last.fm as well. Other shortcuts add the song to your library or switch between Apple Music and Spotify.
Share what you're listening to. Copy a link and send it to anyone. It opens the song in Apple Music, Spotify or Deezer, whichever they use, and shows the cover in Messages.
More from Last.fm. Find songs like the one playing, and see your most played albums as a wall of covers.
Tidier scrobbles. NepTunes takes tags like (Live) or [Demo] out of song titles and keeps a whole album under one artist, so your Last.fm library stays clean.
If you used NepTunes before version 4, love, ratings, sharing and tidier scrobbles stay free for you.
No analytics, no tracking, and your listening history stays on your Mac.
Requires macOS 26.

Works!
Actualccb
Ths App actually works and is inocucos too. I am happy to find a scobbler that works and is not bloated like the actual LastFM scrobbler. Thank you for this app. The only misbehavior I found it to do that didn’t seem right is create multiple desktop images by toggling the Show on desktop or not. I am still in High Sierra, so happy to find that it works al all. I still find that I use the official Last FM App if I want to scrobble plays from my device when synchronizing with iTunes (Mac OS). LastFM app will see and cscrobble the play updates when they hit iTnes, but NepTnes only scrobbles actual iTunes Plays while playing them. Just so you know...
Got it working again. I think I figured out the problem.

In my earlier review I said it often stops working until relaunched, and sometimes the keyboard commands don’t work at all even after relaunch, so I have to regularly wipe the app and all its settings and set it up again, which works until the next time it breaks. But I think what happened is it was removed from Login Items or Allowed in the Background for some reason and it never requested access again, so even when reinstalled it only worked for a short while.I wonder if this is the same issue others have had? Worth looking into. It might be fixed in newer updates but since I’m still on Sequoia I can’t test them.
Hasn't been scrobbling

I don't mind the new Pro add-on. App devs deserve to get paid for their work. However, since the update I am having issues getting the extension to scrobble my tracks. Any idea how I can fix this?EDIT: I'm dumb and didn't do the simple troubleshooting of closing/restarting everything. Works fine now! Appreciate your response and thanks for creating such a helpful application for music stats lovers.

Great for scrobbling

So far this has worked great when listening to music. My only complaint is that recently, when switching songs, it lags behind when looking at the now playing track in the recent section before it gets scrobbled. Whenever I change the song to the next track, it shows the previous track.Edit:It started happening recently. I think it was within the last updates; not sure which one. According to my update screen, I last updated the app on August 6th.

Hey!It looks like the app has a bug. When did it start happening? Please let me know: adam@micropixels.plThanks!
4.1.2 stops NepTunes from cutting words off song titles when it scrobbles.
• With "Cut out extra tags" turned on, NepTunes could drop real words from the end of a title. For example, "Set The Twilight Reeling" was scrobbled as "Set The Twilight". It now removes only tags set apart from the title, such as "(Live)" or "- Remastered 2011".
• A song that was scrobbled with a shortened title is scrobbled with its full title the next time you play it.
