As someone a little too focused on productivity and self-realization tools, I’ve tried a lot of ways of journaling, blogging, publishing, and keeping it to myself. Day One is nice and clean - it’s pretty full-featured, but also lets you turn off, or even better, ignore, features that you don’t want. I’m appreciating being able to write in Markdown, but not having to, as that’s my mode in several wikis that I use for work.Several years and several versions in, I’m really appreciating the line that Day One walks. It has a lot of features, but they don’t get in the way of my fairly simple use. And yet, every few months, I find some feature that helps me write more consistently, more quickly, or expand what I’m writing. The latest discovery was coming to understand the different views, and how satisfying it is to see a long streak in the calendar view. I’d only used timeline view before, but when I looked at the calendar - boom! Easy to use and it helps me write more.I bought Day One (Classic) and wasn’t sure about the upgrade for a while. The new interface is a little more intuitive, and some of the new features are nice. I like multiple images, and I like having the “a year ago” feature without the data being in someone else’s—FB’s—control. I’m not keen on the switch to subscription, but as a developer I understand the tension between ongoing improvements and one-time purchases. The overall cost is still impressively low!
First Review I've Ever Left

I'm writing this review... to tell the developers to PLEASE never stop supporting this app. This is far and away the best journaling app that exists. The ability to start a journal on my phone and pick up on it on my laptop is fantastic. The ability to add pictures and videos to my entries provides endless possibilities and inspiration. There are multiple great ways to find entries you're looking for through keywords and the calendar, etc. It automatically tracks the weather and location of the entry, which is something I always had to write down before using this. It has a "On this day" feature, which provides great perspective in your life without having to go through everything manually. It has prompts, which I don't often use, but I think are fun to do every once in awhile and probably very helpful for someone not used to journaling. The option to create books out of your entries is so cool. I've only done one so far as a test, and it turned out very well so I plan to make many more. You can of course customize colors, fonts, etc. which helps it feel "fresh". I could go on and on and on and on about how practical, inspiring, and absolutely perfect this app is. PLEASE, NEVER STOP SUPPORTING THIS APP! PLEASE! The last journaling app I used not only sucked in comparison, but they stoppepd supporting it and I lost literally every entry. Day One is my favorite app of all, and I hope to enjoy using it for many many many many DECADES. You will not be disappointed.
Templates save me
BlairOutLoud
I would skip journaling for months, because coming up with something to say everyday started to seem artificial. But creating Templates to prompt my thinking really helps me to keep my journaling habit solid. Everyday I have a prompt asking me what I woke up thinking about. When we wake up things are always on our mind.. some personal, some business, random stuff that bothered you during the night.. whatever. In the afternoon I have a template that prompts me to report how the day went, or what could have been better. I don't always do this everyday, but somedays this prompt catches me at just the right moment and I share a little something. Another best practice is just to share one picture of the day, and talk about it. And of course, the reason you might do all of this, go back and review your entries from past months/years.. etc. You discover so much about yourself. "Why did I think like that?" "Oh look, I still think like this.." "Should I change that thing about my life.. here it is years later and I'm still 'working' on it".. These are the questions that you encounter that really helps you analyze your life, gives you an outlet for gratitude, creates and opportunity for growth. Do it! Journal! It's healthy and wonderful. Thanks Day One for a great product. I tried to switch back to paper, but my electronic journaling is a part of my life. I accept it, learn from it, and can't imagine a life without it.
The Best. Hands Down.

This journal has never let me down, and every update has been a welcome addition to the previous version. I would love to choose separate fonts per entry to match what I may be feeling that day. Thank you so much for my categories in Premium - I just happen to use Day One for my business because of the organizational ease afforded by this. I’m a professional composer and I need to lay out my ideas clearly, so the multiple windows on desktop allow me to lay ideas side by side which is insanely wonderful. PDF import with editing would knock my socks off if you could consider that, as well as and option to have the curser chase to my last entry position instead of chasing to the bottom of the page, allowing me to easily perform edits anywhere on the document without fighting the curser. One more thing - I absolutely LOVE that you’ve kept Classic running because when I’m on my mobile device I can still do the side by side thing by just opening both apps and shuttle between both Classic and Updated apps, keeping my current document open and refer to previous entries without closing my working document. So good. I’m not one to rate much because the success of the apps are so often shortlived especially with Apple changing things constantly for the developers, but this app is the exception for me - and with that please accept my humble thanks for keeping up with Apple’s inconvenient and sometimes senseless changes. Kudos to Day One - my daily fix. - David Sovereign, Studio J by the Bay
