The developers listen to their customer base and that has to be applauded! The latest update got rid of all connections to analytics domains and now the app is truly a private alternative to Google Translate (as well as being a better translator in my opinion). I will buy the Mac version and recommend Mate to my friends. Great job, developers!Update: the app's privacy policy is reassuring to a point, but the developers still make use of Amplitude Analytics. While this is much better than Google analytics, it is still a dealbreaker to me as I refuse to use any apps that connect to analytics domains. Please consider adding an option to turn off all analytics. The vast majority of users will leave them on, but it will reassure the privacy conscious among us. Thank you.

Thanks, Sarassine!
Auto-translate tool rarely identifies correct source language, would rather use Google translate
RM 8890
I paid for and installed this app to help me research websites and documents in German, Italian, Catalan, and Spanish. After sticking with it all week, and trying different ways of using it, I will now be deleting it and my subscription because the auto-translate does not correctly identify the source language, but more importantly it does not allow me to manually choose the language to help it out. For example, it consistently misidentifies the same Catalan-language page as Hungarian, then when I reloaded and tried again, it said the page was in Indonesian, next time it was Spanish and stuck to that. Its not just for Catalan, other pages that are hosted in English but have overwhelmingly German text are identified as English only. Therefore, I cannot translate and see whole pages in English, and instead I am back to my previous techniques of copying and pasting text into Google Translate, or using my phone’s camera on Google Translate to navigate websites and read docs. I know I can highlight text and manually choose the source language — but don’t have the time or patience to highlight and translate individual bits of text on the pages, like website menus, or website advanced search options. Huge limitation of this otherwise promising tool. I paid for this app, and have emailed the developers about this issue, but haven’t heard back yet, I’m sure they’re busy. If they fix this, I’ll happily pay for the app again. Thank you
How about native speakers saying the phrase?
YachtieM
Ok, I haven’t had this app very long and it looks pretty decent in what I’ve tried to use it for. However... it would be nice to have a native speaker say the phrase of the language? I tried Maori and it was a man with a notable ‘British’ accent, the same speaker and accent used for the English phrase while I was trying to figure out how to get the app to say the Maori phrase. Yes, that would be a lot of work to add in, but for those of us learning languages, it would be nice to hear a more authentic accent. I would also be nice to have an audio of both phrases versus just the audio of the phrase showing up on the top row. I had English wanting to hear it in Maori, so the English was showing on top. When I switched the langague (what gets translated) I at first got English twice. I had to copy the Maori, switch the languages around to get Maori as the language to be translated into English. On the first try, the audio stayed with the English, then when I copied and pasted I got the ‘British’ male speaking Maori with a a ‘British’ accent. Didn’t try other languages to see if that was consistent across other languages. Important details for those using the app to help learn a language!
Lifetime Option
BuMmR
This app is excellent and functions exactly as advertised. However, the $6 monthly subscription fee is difficult to justify for my usage pattern. I primarily use it for a limited number of sites—probably fewer than five—and often go a week or two without needing it at all. While I understand the developer likely invests time in updates and maintenance, the current pricing model doesn't align well with my intermittent use. For users like me, who appreciate the app but don't require it daily, a lifetime subscription option would be ideal. The app's quality is undeniable, and I'd be more inclined to make a one-time purchase for long-term access. This would allow me to support the developer's work while better suiting my occasional usage needs. I hope the developer considers introducing a lifetime subscription tier, as it would make the app much more accessible for users with similar usage patterns to mine.
