"Roughly" is a Watch complication, for Modular and many other watch faces, that tells you the approximate time, in words. Times are given to the nearest five minutes: "it's about ten to six", "it's about quarter past three", or "it's about five o'clock". Accurate but imprecise, it's a "fuzzy clock".
Roughly is meant to be fun, but can also be useful for those with dyscalculia (numeric dyslexia) or for the lazy. When you're asked what the time is, you can just read it out.
Roughly can be shown in the large central area of any Modular watch face, and in a single line of text on many other watch faces, including Activity Analog, Utility, Motion, Photo, Mickey or Minnie. Please note that on the single line complication, the hour may be shown as a digit if there is insufficient space for a word. For example, "TWENTY FIVE PAST 12" may be shown rather than "TWENTY FIVE PAST TWELVE". This is more common on a smaller Watch, and if it's an issue for you, please use a Modular face instead.
NEW: You can now tap the Roughly complication to change the language.
## Instructions
The iPhone app only displays an image. To load Roughly, install the iPhone app, then wait for it to install on your paired Apple Watch, or install it manually through the Watch app on your iPhone.
Tap and hold on the watch face to change it, then switch to the Modular face, or a face which supports a single line of text. Press Customize, then activate the Middle complication on Modular or the Bottom or Below Time complication on another face. Choose Roughly from the list there, then press the digital crown twice to return to the watch face.
## NOTE: Sorry for the delay between releases; I was unable to post an update due to issues with App Store backend systems that have now been resolved.

It's a cool complication, I like it and everything. But it's annoying that when I touch the complication, I get this big paragraph of instructions on how to install the app in tiny little letters. I already know how to install the app, that's why it's on my watch face for me to touch. Wouldn't it make more sense for the text of roughly time to fill the screen instead of those stupid instructions? Like, if it says "it's about half past nine" and you tap the complication, the words "it's about half past nine" should now fill the watch screen. Wouldn't that make more sense?
Waste of time thus far

Lain, I’m not sure if Apple updates interferes with the proper functions of your app. I have it downloaded on my devices. iOS 26.0 currently. The orange rounded color circle is5 size smaller than previously on my ultra watch. When I click or press on it, it doesn’t direct me to settings on my watch. It doesn’t function in MODULAR or any other watch faces, but indeed, it allows you to change languages flawlessly, & never connect to any WATCH FACE. UNFORTUNATELY, your request to give you a positive review & change my previous, after years of waiting for you to respond, this is what you’re requesting as a developer? What are you smoking? Simply fix your dysfunctional product first at least, then get the accolades you deserve, you think? Instead you’re threatening to block me. How honorable is that? Who raised you? Come on man, block me. I want you to just block my review. Release me from trying to clean up your mess a few years later. ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨Here! Take as many twinkling stars you want.
Developer Response
Sorry you’ve had trouble with this; I’ve updated Roughly recently, and you can now install it directly on the watch or through the iPhone app. You’ll then need to add it as a complication by editing a watch face that has a space with at least a line of text.
Very useful when it updates

I love this complication, but I find that it frequently doesn't update the time without being tapped.
Developer Response
Sorry about this — the bug has now been fixed.
So much fun!

I love to look at my watch and see this description of the time. It’s so like my lifestyle. I love being able to change the language too (from the app settings in the Watch app). Note that the language changes only after you move to a different watch complication and back. Thanks for this!!
You can now tap the Roughly complication on any watch face to change the language.
