I found this app after attending a spin class that used another Kaiser App to create a class wide “dashboard” on a shared screen attached to the instructor’s laptop. The app, which is free, offers two FTP tests: a “brief” 30 minute workout that calls for a 5 minutes of all out effort as well as an extended 45 minute workout that calls for a 20 minute all out effort to estimate the users FTPIn addition there are guided sessions for improving endurance, cadence, FTP and VO2 Max. There is no voice over narration for the “guided session” instead there is a combination, bar graph, watt meter and rpm gauge that suggests the optimal gearing and rpm to accomplish the workout. Kaiser has a subscription service that provides traditional narrated workouts..

Barely passable and in need of a serious update

December 2021 review update - Well it’s been 16 months since Keiser support replied to me in an email that the app was undergoing a complete refresh. We’re still waiting! The exercise bike is great, but the app is thoroughly outdated, mediocre, buggy, and lacks Apple Watch integration. If one were in the market for a new bike, I would highly recommend considering alternatives until Keiser finally gets their act together and supports the entire user experience including the app and integration with wearables. My older reviews followThe following is Keiser’s reply from August 2020 to my general inquiry about an app refresh. “The Keiser MSeries App is currently being worked on for a complete refresh. Apple Watch compatibility will be a bike integration, not an app integration. We have had numerous amount of interest in this and it is currently being looked into by our engineers. In order to briefly pause a ride, you can tap on apps screen and it will ask you if you would like to pause your ride. “ Nine months later and we’re still waiting! I continue to be pleased with the bike, but the app is simply antiquated and an embarrassment for a company that makes superior equipment. My original review follows: An excellent piece of exercise equipment such as the M3i deserves better! Ability to seamlessly pause a workout, Apple Watch, and Apple Health integration are among the pressing needs. The interface is more than a bit outmoded and dated. Surely Keiser can do better than this!

Awful Update

I’ve been in a group class for almost 2 years, riding twice a week, every week. The most recent update isn’t an update it’s a disaster. It’s pretty but Keiser focused on the bike, not the rider. It tracks a ton of stuff more than before but it’s buried in the noise. I’m writing this with the hopes that the developers take notes and fix these issues.For starters, now when I start the app, it adds my bike at the bottom of the list. Unless I’m one of the first ones I always have to scroll down to find my bike, which is off the screen. It used show a lot more bikes.In the app, there are 3 view options. One is based on FTP. It tells you how hard you are working and what zone you are in. The problem is that it is based on your power level, which Keiser doesn’t do well. It’s like they are trying to imitate instead of innovate. I’ve started using this screen more than the other two because the others are sooo bad.The second screen view is RPM. Plus 8 other readings. Rpm is nice and big. But I can’t find anything else on the screen. 8 numbers scattered around the RPM, with very small font to indicate what the number is above. What’s my heart rate? What’s the FTP? What gear am I in? The third screen is really where things fall apart. It’s a chart of the power level. That’s it. Nothing more. It used to show heart rate and power level. Ironically, when you finish your workout it shows this amazing chart of the workout, including heart rate and FTP. WHY IS THIS NOT AVAILABLE WHEN WORKING OUT?Also, you still can’t rotate to get a larger chart. Seriously? In the end I’m sorely disappointed with this app that I really hoped would be an improvement. Instead: garbage.

The ability to take an FTP test periodically helps gauge progress. The guided sessions that are tailored to your FTP results are great! The app is a little glitchy though and sometimes has trouble starting up or pauses mid ride. If you open another app, your final data will tracked will be influenced by the time period you ran this app in the background, which is annoying. My biggest gripe though is with the calorie count. Since they have incorporated the Polar heart rate monitor readings in the app and have details from the rider profile, you wouldn’t think it would be too difficult to get accurate calorie counts. It is unclear what if any rider specific data is taken into consideration in the calorie count. Please address this. I wore my Suunto today out of curiosity and there was quite a disparity!!
