TennisPal has cultivated a tennis community allowing players of all levels to easily match with partners. I’ve played at the college level and in ITF tournaments, and I’ve found more opportunities to hit with top players on TennisPal than on any other application. I recently moved to Los Angeles where I didn’t know anyone, and TennisPal was an invaluable resource to help me build a solid tennis network. The broadcast and find your coach features help tennis players centralize all their tennis needs into a fully integrated platform. The user experience is also seamless.

First of all, I love this app. It’s easy to use and easy to search for players in your area. I like the social aspect of the app in that you can share photos and videos. The chat function works perfectly and I like the broadcast function that can send a message to all players that meet your filters instead of individually messaging a bunch of people. That being said, this app is not without its problems, similar to any app. While meeting players is made easy, meeting players that are actually true to their supposed level is not reliable. I’ve used this app to meet up with 6 different players, and only half of them were true to their claimed level. Many of the players have complained that they don’t know how to rate themselves (this is rather confusing on the app) and end up randomly putting a number which usually is a gross overestimation. While I love meeting new people regardless of their level, many of whom I still see today outside of tennis, it is a bit frustrating when you expect to play someone in your wheelhouse and plan accordingly only to discovery a wide skill gap. In conclusion, easy to use app in terms of finding players, but the players are sometimes not in accordance with their claimed levels. If you are a beginner to 4.0 (NTRP) player, this app is perfect because it contains many more of these level players, but as a 4.0+ you will end up playing with a bunch of supposed 4.5+ or higher that are really 3.0s.

What a great tennis resource. I have been on this app for just two weeks and I have matched up with two competitive players at my level. TennisPAL is great because it’s a tennis community. (you tube videos tutorials) or in person video coaching. (Waiting to get my first critique from a coach). I also can get my fix of tennis updates on ATP scores. They also have real time posts which I haven’t used but seems like a fun feature if you want more social feeds that are tennis related. Great app!

Messaging people is easy and there seems to be a good community of average level players although not all that active. Hard to find 12+UTR in any area but this app might help. However I’ve seen a few 65 y.o ladies rate themselves as 13.0 UTR which is not actually humanly possible if you’ve ever seen a UTR 13 play and know what level that is. Maybe the UTR rating could be transmitted to the app and that would stop the false self ratings seen by some users.
