Trip’s Treasures is a fun exercise in “subitizing,” an early math skill. Help Trip the Dolphin find the right number of treasures and watch your piles of loot grow! It’s important for young students to form mental images of number patterns. If students use manipulatives (e.g., blocks, beads, etc.), they are more likely to rely on counting ones than on mental imagery. Subitizing is “instantly seeing how many.” It is the ability to visualize a small amount of objects and know how many there are without counting. It is what tells you what number you roll on a six sided dice. Subitizing is a fundamental skill in the development of young children’s understanding of numbers.
