I work in consumer fragrance and this app is currently the most efficient source on the market for finding out when a product was made. A couple tweaks I would like to see: 1) having a keyboard in app that displays numbers and letters on the same keyboard set would drastically speed up the process when having to process large batches of product! 2) a camera scanner for batch codes would be bizarrely helpful—not sure if that’s possible but it would be amazing if it were!!Great app!! I use this nearly every day.
Developer Response
Thank you for your support and such thoughtful, practical suggestions! It’s wonderful to hear that LotDate is part of your daily work in the fragrance industry. Our team is already considering both an alphanumeric keyboard and camera scanning for batch codes, and we’re very likely to move forward with them. Your firsthand experience makes this feedback especially valuable to us.
Might be a good concept, but after just one product check, you then have to pay for the app.

Came across the Lot Date website to which I did one search checking for a product date. When I went to check a second product, it said I must use the app to check anymore products. So I downloaded the app, however, the app as well only gave me one time and then said I had to pay to check any more. It’s a bit ridiculous to only get one chance to see what this is all about before the website prompts you to use their app, then when you download the app, you again only get one time to see what it’s all about and then you have to pay for the app. It sounds like it would be a good concept but if you only get to try it one time - that doesn’t give you a chance to see if it would be worth paying the money for the app.
Developer Response
Thank you for sharing your experience moving from the website to the app. We understand that reaching another limit soon after downloading can feel frustrating and make it hard to decide whether to pay. The app’s free allowance resets daily—it isn’t a one-time trial. Keeping batch-code information up to date and maintaining the service involves ongoing costs, which is why free lookups are limited. Thank you for highlighting where this experience felt less seamless.
Ugh.

Good for some stuff. Not most of the stuff I carry. 😩
Developer Response
Thank you for your support and feedback! If a brand is missing, you can submit a brand request in the app. We’ll do our best to investigate its batch-code information and add support where we can provide reliable results, so more of your products can be checked.
Pretty reliable

correct dates about 7/10 but some were way off by years. Not everything has been expired that’s been reported here. they have the option to let them know and they correct it.
Developer Response
Thank you for reporting those results. LotDate uses brand-specific batch-code formats, but manufacturers may update or reuse formats across different production periods. The displayed expiry is also an estimate based on the decoded production date. If a result looks incorrect, tap ‘Not accurate? → Send feedback’ and add the known date so we can verify that exact code and improve the rule for everyone.
- Added a number row for easier batch code entry.
- Added camera scanning to recognize and enter batch codes.
- Bug fixes and improvements.
