Mass Rename — rename, number, and organize thousands of files in seconds.
Stop renaming files one by one. Mass Rename lets you build a renaming rule once, preview every change live, and apply it to your whole folder in a single click — from a handful of photos to tens of thousands of files.
NEW IN 2.0
Completely rebuilt, with on-device AI Smart Rename, reusable renamer workflows, folders to keep them organized, and a live preview that stays fast at massive scale.
AI SMART RENAME — ON-DEVICE & PRIVATE
Let your Mac read what's actually inside a file and give it a clear, descriptive name. "Untitled.pdf" becomes "Acme Corporation Invoice." "scan_0042.pdf" becomes "Residential Lease Agreement." It all runs on-device — nothing is ever uploaded.
(Requires macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence.)
BUILD REUSABLE WORKFLOWS
Chain simple steps into powerful renamers you can save, organize into folders, and reuse anytime:
• Custom Format — mix your own text with tokens: file name, parent folder, sequence numbers, dates, and metadata
• Find & Replace — plain text or full regular expressions
• Add a prefix or suffix, set or change the extension
• Change case — UPPERCASE, lowercase, Title Case, Sentence case
• Insert or remove characters at any position
• Sequential numbering with custom start, step, and digits
RENAME BY REAL FILE INFO
• Photos — by dimensions, camera model, or date taken
• Music — by title, artist, album, track number, and year
• Dates — created, modified, or added, in the format you choose
PREVIEW EVERYTHING. UNDO ANYTHING.
See the old name and new name side by side for every file before you commit, with automatic conflict handling so nothing gets overwritten. Changed your mind? Undo the entire batch in one click.
RENAME FILES AND FOLDERS
Rename folders too — not just the files inside them. When you add items, choose to include files, folders, or both.
BUILT FOR BIG JOBS
Drop in an entire folder — even tens of thousands of files — and Mass Rename stays smooth and responsive, filling in the preview as you go.
Perfect for photographers, designers, developers, music libraries, cluttered Downloads folders, scanned documents, and anyone tired of messy filenames.

Does everything I need, easily. Great support!
DatBadWolf
I've been reviewing apps with functionality to easily edit filenames in large batches. Mass Rename does exactly what I need it to do. It's simple, straightforward, and easy to use. When I have questions regarding the app, I reach out to George for support, and he alway gets back to me the same day - usually within a short time of sending a message. I think this app and his support are excellent. I'd recommend this app over other better known app names.
I like this app

Updated Review June 2025: The developer is great at supporting the product and is open to suggestions. He helped me migrate my rules to a new computer, and also enhanced Mass Rename with a rule export and import function. Excellent, and thank you! Original Review: I use this app to batch rename photos that have been edited as well as live streams. Easy to use, and once set up, save me a lot of time by avoiding having to manually adjust file names.
An Excellent Tool!

Once you figure out what format you’d like to use, changing file names is a snap, fast, and saves an incredible amount of time. Well worth the money.
Really fallen apart since the update
Afdjlokwngfeoin
This program worked great and was a key part of any mass file work I had to do. Now ever since the update it is full of glitches that are extremely frustrating (my favorite being it just deciding to not let you type in somewhere you absolutely should until you move the module, absolutely maddening) , and it runs with horrible efficiency. To the dev: If you’re coding with AI, please stop.
Developer Response
Hi, thank you for the honest review, and I'm sorry 2.0 made your work harder. You were right about both problems, and version 2.1, out now, fixes them: every field now takes typing on the first click, and the app is much faster, even with big folders.2.1 also brings back Keep Files in List, so you can run several renamers on the same files, just like the original Mass Rename. If you still run into anything after updating, please write to me from Help → Feedback & More Apps and I'll fix it.Giorgos
SEND FILES STRAIGHT FROM FINDER
Control-click files and choose Services → Rename with Mass Rename, use Open With, or drop them onto the Dock icon. Don't see the Services entry? Turn it on in System Settings → Keyboard → Keyboard Shortcuts → Services.
NUMBER RAW + JPEG PAIRS TOGETHER
Turn on "Same number for files with the same name" in a Sequence action, and IMG_0001.jpg and IMG_0001.dng get the same number.
RENAME IN SEVERAL ROUNDS
Keep Files in List runs another renamer on the same files, just like the original Mass Rename. Undo Rename steps back one round at a time.
TYPE A NAME YOURSELF
Double-click a new name, or right-click and choose Edit New Name…, to set one file's name exactly.
SORT BY DATE TAKEN
Put photos in shooting order. "Photo taken" in the Date action now always reads the photo's own date.
FILTER BY KIND AND EXTENSION
Show only images, or just .jpg files. Rename applies to the files shown.
FASTER AND MORE RELIABLE
Fields in actions take typing on the first click, big folders load much faster, and dragging actions and sidebar items works every time.
