Preparation
To use the RS-MS1I with a supported transceiver, you need an optional Bluetooth unit. See your transceiver’s instruction manual for details.
Transceiver’s settings
Set the following functions as shown below to use the RS-MS1I.
[Function] > [CI-V] > [CI-V Transceive]: ON
[Bluetooth Set] > [Data Device Set] > [Serial Port Function]: CI-V (Echo back OFF)
Note:
- The RS-MS1I may not work with all iPhones or iPads, even if they are one of the tested devices. This is because an application program on your device may conflict with the RS-MS1I.
- The RS-MS1I may not be used, depending on the OS version, installed application, and so on.
- Bluetooth LE is used for the connection with the transceiver, so there may be a time delay between the transceiver’s operation and the display on the iPhone or iPad.
- When sending or receiving pictures using “FAST mode,” the headset audio will be temporarily interrupted because of the transceiver’s Bluetooth unit limitations.
- You may need to connect to the Internet through a Wireless LAN, an LTE network or a 5G network for some functions.
- The RS-MS1I supports only portrait orientation with the iPhone. It does not support Auto Rotate. However, landscape orientation and Auto Rotate are supported with the iPad.
I paid extra for the Bluetooth card for my ID-4100A and was looking forward to being able to use this app. In spite of triple checking the transceiver settings described in the “instructions”, and in spite of the fact that the app instantly sees the device, whenever I try to actually connect it tries for a few seconds then fails. The instructions go on at length saying that the app may not work on certain phones and certain operating system versions or with other apps installed. Therefore I tried it on two different phones and an iPad and the same thing happens. I have never seen any Bluetooth application fail to work and blame the platform like this. I contacted support and so far have not had a response. It seems clear that the app just needs some attention by the developer to actually work as promised, no excuses.
Doesn’t work
Millbean
I was really looking forward to this having just got the ID-52a and I thought, for sure being that Icom has such a large presence here in the US for amateur radio that they would surely have an iOS app that would work well with their flagship HT being that the vast majority of people in the US use iPhones. Unfortunately, the app is completely unusable because the very first step of connecting through Bluetooth doesn’t work. It’s able to find the radio but it’s not able to connect the radio and phone. I have, of course, tried every possible solution and nothing works. A real disappointment, considering the manufacturers name.
Works as described on supported radios!
CB12345
I won’t fault the program for not supporting radios it doesn’t claim to support. I have a 4100A and this app works like a champ. There are many basic functions that I prefer to use by app instead of radio, but don’t expect to be able to do deep menu work by phone, just the stuff basic menu functions. I really like the ability to pull up the map and select repeaters by map. The past contacts are very nice to see on the phone screen instead of just the small radio screen. Yes, I am pleased overall.
No reason for lack of support
Dos Fenos
It is important that consumers see the lack of customer service and support for reviews. The issue in company’s like icom is it is the leadership who is at fault not the rep or worker. Remember in business it is always top down!! Leadership is always at fault and need removal as supervisor or CEO. Great thing is we can always put our money in your competitors revenue and in time you will need to wake up. Terrible leadership and it shows by these reviews!
- Supported with ID-52A/E PLUS.
- Changed to allow a common Bluetooth pairing device.
- Other minor changes.
